When I bought my truck I was reading about cavitation here and went out the next day to the Cummins shop and bought a bottle of the silicate coolant additive and added it to the radiator. NOW I see where it can react with certain antifreezes to make a sludge. I have no idea if it is causing any problems I didn`t mix coolants just added the cavitation additive. What do you guys suggest?

I always drain my coolant on any truck that I buy, flush and refill it with what I intend to use. That way I know what is in the radiator and just not assuming someone else put the right stuff in it.

It depends on what was in your Rad to begin with, and what kind of additive you added.

I believe, the standard Ford green coolant calls for "DCA4" additive.

Best thing to do is test your coolant before adding ant SCA's as too much can also be a bad thing.

Thats what I used was the DCA4, I had never heard of block cavitation before I read about it here and I have a D-4 Cat, John Deere 450 backhoe and several diesel tractors. I checked the coolant when I got it just for the freezing point but even with those test strips it is still hard to tell how much SCA is in there. I wonder if a digital sodium nitrite test will tell me anything.
