Ok this might sound like a stupid ? but I always wondered what the purpose of duallies are.

you don't sink as easily into soft terrain.

This. As for flotation, drive a dually 2wd on uneven wet grass, It will spin and get stuck without ever diggin in. Thats flotation.

some main points to the purpose of duals is load capacity and redundancy with a tire failure.
