i dont understand the point of that? 4000 rpm is so far off the torque curve. Even pulling in on the mountain passes it never rarely sees over 3000 rpm let alone daily driving and there is so little power at 4000 rpm that acceleration is going to be lame

that truck has great acceleration:eek:

I wonder how many rpm that alt belt will take. Had a 92 that got the gov screwed with would turn 4500. made for impressive acceleration and never blew up. that was along time ago and I would not do it again unless for tractor pull or racing. my current truck rarely sees much more than 2500 with the turbo and intercooler I dont need to turn it any harder. also on the 92 it would pull hard to 42ish and was turboed. all these truck that fall off at 2500 need more fuel.

dont know how many rpm the belts or any other accesory will take but it held to one short run of 4400, and i thought about new springs for the valves, but im not sure were too look, any ideas? i figured i wouldnt take it too far above 4000 until i got more of a spring

just need some measurements spring id, od, installed height/pressure, open/pressure. might just need stockers shimmed a little. 100 pound seat pressure springs should be plenty but maybe not such a good idea on a motor that tends to drop valves oh well it probably wont last that long anyway.

valve float is supposed to be @ 4200rpms (or thats what I've heard parroted around here).
The real question is, how good are the springs after 100k-200k miles in a underfunded vehicle like Dyoungs?

Wow, after seeing what a valve in these motors looks like. I'd say they have plenty of room for a nice valve job. The casting on my motor leaves LOTS of room for getting extra CFM out of 'em. Might have to fire up the flowbench and see.-Drool

I have had experience with over revving international engines

So what were you twisting it when the valve was kissed and why did it kiss the valve? Were you standing on it for an extended period? Were you browbeating the truck? Was it valve float? Did it loose a keeper or bust a spring? Did it drop the valve? Did it stick the valve? Did something foriegn find its way through the valve seat? Was the valve guide shot? Was the rocker shot? What was the root of this evil? There had to be more to it then just RPM. RPM just found the breaking point and I am interested to know what it was. :dunno

all this, and more on the next Unsolved Mysteries :sly:rotflmao

seriously...i think if you are trying to run it at high rpm like a gasser, why not just drive a gasser and have the top end power you're looking for?:dunno

cause twisting a diesel that high is that much funner:sly, it was not lacking power one bit when i twisted it that high it layed me into the seat all the way till i shifted, and let off, so it had plenty of top end even past 4000
