So I got home yesterday and looked at this 94 f350 4dr cab, 4x4.......this truck has been sitting for a while, it has a couple of little oil leaks, nothing major, it started right up when I turned the key, but then it died right away, so i did it again, it died again, i did it again and this time i held on the acc. down for a little but, about a min and it was fine then, it ran great smooth shifts, 4x4 was great. The actual truck has 280,000 miles on it and the motor has about 80,000. He got a new motor buecause his last one "broke a bearing", he doesnt know too much about diesels, but he always got it serviced by a diesel mechanic. I dont know if it has the sca in the additive because I couldnt find those test strips, i looked every were, I went to Napa, Autozone, Kragen, Pepboys, and even this old german autos parts store, noone new were to get the them, so any help on that one?....lol......but this truck the a/c seems to be shot, it blows, but it makes a noise, sounded like the belt was dried........any thoughts? But overall he is selling it for 3000, should I get it? It runs great jus the a/c, the minor leaks, and dont know for sure about the sca additive..........any feedback would be great....thank you..Mario

P.S. It isnt a powerstroke, yet it is turbo charged, so I assumed it was from the begining of 94 before the powerstrokes came out, so does that mean it is still an idi?........and when starting and runing you couldnt even see anything comming out of the exhaust not water or smoke.....thanks again, Mario.

What you are describing is an air intrusion. Could just be bum return lines, but expect a slobbering injector that leaks down when parked and the thing will likely need new injectors and install kit, and if the pump is original, it won't be far behind.3k seems a bit high

Prices vary depending where You live, around here You can get better than that for 3k. If You like it You could offer less.

It is either a factory turbo (ats) IDI or the turbo was added on later. Like stated above, sounds like air/fuel leak with the classic start and die routine.

3k aint too shabby for a turbo'ed 4x4 crew cab. Especially if it's one of theose rust free ones.;Sweet

What kind of shape is it in? All beat up, or is a good, presentable truck? Good Tires? Interior? XLT or XL? Alloy wheels or steel? Does everything else work? Is the bed all beat up and dented in, or is it pretty straight yet?

All of these things factor into the price. if it is in good overall condition, $3K is not a bad price like Ron said for a F350 4x4 (dana 60) Turbo Diesel.

If it is a old beat up XL Work truck, then the 3K is a little high.

The body doesnt have any cancer rust, one spot has some surface rust.....and there is one dent on the side of the bed.....I wasnt too worried about the body though becasue I could easily fix all that, im just new to diesels, and the engine and tranny is what im nervous about...I just went to a diesel mechanic today and he said hell take a look at it for a small fee of course.....im thinking about doing that...should I? also i bought these test strips from napa, prt # 524106, and it says it test nitrite, freeze point, and ph, are these the right ones to test for sca? I also bought "Motorcraft Diesel Cooling system additive" It has the ford logo on it, is this the right additive....I read the oilburners.net forums and article on cavitation i am just really nervous and want to make sure i have the right stuff.......Thanks For your help! I have the napa bottle in the truck so I can't double check the part # but it sounds like the right stuff. Nitrates are what your looking for. When you test it and it shows up yellowish, then there's never been anytype of sca's in it (unless there is a brand new radiator and they forgot to add it) If it even has a faint purple hint to it, then atleast it has something in there for sca's.

When I replaced the rad and put in new coolant, I added 64oz of napakool to the system and it seems to be the exact match for color on the strips.

I need to go shopping with you. When I was looking a couple of months ago in MD, PA, VA...I couldnt find any great deals. I ended up paying 4k for a 2wd F350 dually crew cab w/factory turbo. It is in good shape. It is one of the centurion conversion deals...I dont like the color scheme at all...but it is in good shape and the interior is in good shape too. It did have some frame rust that needed to be repaired. It had 128k miles. The 4 rear tires were brand new..but the fronts needed to be replaced as well as all of the brakes. I was completely new to diesels so maybe I just didnt know what I was doing. It was originally priced at 6k.
