My thought is just this - You take a heavier Light Duty tow truck, and try to give it Medium Duty power, then what breaks next?
On my F450's that's an easy answer :D
anything that was directly a Ford item broke or burned up. Got real good at swaping out cabs -cussfrom firewall issues to wiring nightmares and ultimately the spotwelds pulling apart. 890k on the chassis will do that  As far as the frame and suspension, you couldn't buy a tougher setup. Probably the F450's best kept secret. Looked and smelled like a overgrown pickup to a city beat cop but could haul like a IH4700. Just don't be totally obvious about it when in wieght restricted areas :rotflmao

what i want is fuel mileage or power.i know with the PSD i can get half way decent fuel mileage with great power.my truck wieghs 9200 pounds unloaded,my pickup is around 8,000 pounds.my IDI gets probably 11 MPG if im lucky,my PSD gets16.5MPG on the high chip settingmy IDI goes through a tank of fuel a day,the PSD uses a tank in almost 2 days.either way at some point this summer the 94 IS getting a PSD swap or sell it and get one with a PSD in it.

ive been waiting for the e4odead to die so i can swap a 5 speed into it so i can get rid of the stupid engine driven hydraulic pump that goes through 2 belts every 2 weeks at 25.00 a belt.i have everything to do the tranny swap sitting in another f450 i have.but i also like my automatic

unless the e4odead :puke: is brand new (which u mantioned it isnt) u loose a lot of power with it. the truck will be a whole new animal when u do the 5'er swap :backoff , so hold the phone on the psd swap. have a little faith man!!

I don't know if this post will show up.

Anyhow as you may know I went to a 95 F-Superduty PSD best move I ever made now I'am looking for a lower kilometer F-Superduty or F-450 if I can find one.

The IDI doesn't even come close to a PSD for powerwise would I go back to a IDI probably not. My truck gets 12-13 mpg which is about the same as the IDI F-Superduty I had.

What I like about the PSD is it has the power my truck is stock its been reliable so far except for a lift pump no problems. The truck starts every time it can easily do the speed limit the IDI struggled with that.

A IDI with a 5spd isn't a power house either I never drove a IDI with a juicer so I can't compare the two.

I think your best move Rich is find a 95-97 F-Superduty and take your ramp body off your current truck and put it on another chassis. If you can find a good rust free truck from Texas or California it should last you quite a few years.
