Ive only owned a PSD. Wife wants a burb. I drove it, and the heater fan ticks, the check engine light came on 2ticw while on the freeway after merging (foot on the floor) then powering up on a slight hill. And theres a really noticeable rpm related rattle under the back passenger side. I was wondering if the rattle could be an electric fuel pump takein a dive or just exhaust rattlein around. I'll be throwin an air filter and exhaust and guages at it right away. Also what kind of power range can I be in for around $2k? Lastly who makes a factory leather kit for it, the front seats are shot?

Thanks guys..

Look up "kennedy diesel" they seem to be the only source for 6.2/6.5 non-stock parts. As far as the seats are concerned, you should have a large source from any local small truck wrecking yard since the floor profile is the same for all the fronts. Nice chebby interiors are easier to find than furds around here cookoo

Also, what kind of oil are you guys ruinnin? Im usein delo, but what do these like?
I have delo in the whole fleet. Its a diesel just like any other diesel. btw...as far as the codes are concerned, it should be pretty easy to pop codes. GM's are the most user friendly when it comes to code popping. Look at the exhaust for the rpm related rattle. the f/p is not noisy due to rpm's.

On that '94 you can cross wire two terminals in the diagnostic connector to get codes. It should be the top two on the the passenger side, the service engine soon light will flash them out in numerical blinks. For instance it will start out with 1 flash followed by 3 closer ones and it will repeat this 3 times in a row. This is code 13 and should be shown by all vehicles as the first code, it simply means that the computer recognizes what's going on. From there it will follow a similar protocol for anyother codes, all will be shown 3 times then the next one will be shown. Heath and Kennedy are pretty much the only two for 6.5 aftermarket. I prefer Heath as he seems to care more about customer service... I run either Delo 400 or Texaco Ursa oil in mine, oil analysis has always come back clean on it. Any diesel rated oil will work though, there not as sesitive as a PSD.

thans for the instructions,. i was just gunna ask for those. I bought the rig, well stole it really. The rattle is deffinatly some devise, it sounds like a REALLY loud and fast electric fuel pump and it switches on and off. I get a warning light right at 60 mph and she even stumbles a bit. The noise is right around the AC compressor and turbo area.

Any ideas? Thanks again.

I'd venture a guess and say that it's the vaccum pump making noise. IMO, one of the best upgrades is to remove the vaccum pump and get a Turbo Master from Heath. That's also probably what's causing the SES to come on. I'll try to dig up my list of codes for the '94 and put it up here.

noise is the AC compressor, when it stops spinnin the noice stops. Gotta have an AC tech do that on tho don't I?

Still havent tripped the codes, but fif yo filters and fluids.

I could be just the bearing. Your local parts house probably rents out tools, you could rent the puller/driver tool for the pulley and install the bearing yourself. I helped a friend do it on his '96 and it wasn't to hard. If the compressor kicks on and off rapidly it is probably just low on freon. I don't remember if the '94 has R-134a or not? If it does you can service it yourself fairly easily.

I don't know exactly what it's called, but I'd guess something along the lines of A/C compressor pulley puller/installer. It's very similar in principal to a powersteering pulley puller/installer in how it's built and designed to work. The only difference is the threaded adapter that screws into the A/C pulley.
