I dropped a 7.3 idi with factory turbo in my 1980. I know what I need to do the make the engine work, I am not sure what I need to do for the charging system. How do I adapt the newer alternator (93 engine) to the older truck? Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My guess on the alternator is that it's a 3G swap. There's been threads on doing this and some have some pretty good pictures. I do have to admit that most of us only swap the alternators while doing this. Not the entire engine. ;Poke :joker:

So factory turbo I’m presume the motor is serpentine meaning it’s a 3g style so 4 wires, let’s see how well I remember colors

Yellow- charge post
Green- 12v key on
White- little plug next to voltage regulator
Charge wire- battery I use 4 gauge

I used the 12v key on that supplies the 80’ voltage regulator that’s on the wheel well so you may delete on the voltage regulator and corresponding wiring
