Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
I been watching you on this conversion.....OK a question @Nero & all OB folks...... your frontal pic you posted last Friday, I see that metal bracket that goes behind the vacuum pump. What is that bracket for & is it needed?

Few yrs back & bout 90,000 miles when I put that '94 factory IDIT engine in Bessie, my '90 CCLB Dually truck, that bracket wasn't there. Recently I changed out my vac pump, new one came apart, trouble, trouble, etc, etc.

So I pulled vac pump off my '92 IDI NA truck that is down & parked for now..... there was the bracket. So I went & looked at my '94 IDI NA old UHaul truck & lo-n-behold there was a bracket behind that vac pump.....hummm. What is it for & what it do?

As for this setup, I would definitely recommend everyone get Ron's fan and clutch setup. The install was remarkably easy and looks pretty clean.
I guess I missed about Ron's setup.????
I used to hear a definite cycle. Last several yr ago & thru the yrs I've changed out fan clutches..... no more cycling!!! I've just given up trying to get one that will cycle. My temp stays OK etc, but no cycling.

I have no idea what the bracket is for. Maybe for belt slap? I heard it and the vac pulley are the hardest parts to find though.

I did the same addition of ac on my 92. The 5.0 and 5.8 ac bolts right on to the diesel engine. Only change I made was to angle the metal pipes at the compressor to fit better. And no 134a conversion problems.

Well to wrap it up with a nice little bow, here's my review on this setup.

Pulling some long hills with a light load in the back, boost still pegs at 8 like it always have, egt's seem to be slightly cooler, but major difference is, coolant temp will not budge past 202°F, which I'm super happy about. And that's with the AC rollin' full blast.

If I had to do this all over again, I absolutely would. This fan setup is far superior.

Only complaint I have is noise. The fan is definitely louder. With the AC off, fan does cycle off, but on the freeway seems to be on at all times. Unsure why. I know there is an adjustment on the controller, but I think I'll leave it be.

I already have an aftermarket deck and speakers. Sounds like crap due to poor noise insulation. I'm down for making it better, but crew cab acoustics aren't the best.

Time to tear into it and Dynamat the whole interior.
If you do, check with Eastwood, they have the same thing but much lower.
Same side box of Dyna-mat was $300, Eastwood $94. couple years ago.

Edit:

I see it has gone up a bit. Now $129.97..

I did the 85 Super Cab, whole floor and back and side walls.
Got carried away and did the 86 single cab, floor and back wall and door`s. Lil bit inside and the metal facing inside. Did not cover the open holes like I see on some YT Videos.

Started out with one box of 9 sheets of Dyna-Mat off e-bay, ($160( then second box from Summit Racing, ($165) 60 miles north of me.
Needed a 3rd box and price shot off the charts. Then Discovered Eastwood opened up a store in Reno, and same stuff $94..bought both boxes they had.
