So what did you do with your truck today?

I had an expiring coupon for $13 off an oil change at my local quick-change place that usually can be trusted... they got it done, but they also took it upon themselves to top up the very low oil in my BW1356 transfer case... with GL5 80W-90! I asked *** did they do that for and 1) they said it was leaking everywhere and slinging oil from both ends (apparently the kid in the pit couldn't tell the difference between ATF and black diesel oil that had been blown off the engine); 2) apparently didn't realize that the reason it leaks a little is that some gorilla (before I got the truck) had overtightened the drain plug and put a hairline crack in the boss, which was the only leak source because I rebuilt it myself a couple years ago; and 3) "we always do that for GM 4x4 so they leak less" (!)

I let the manager know in no uncertain terms not to deviate from factory spec without talking to me first!!
Anyway. I could get 4 psi boost with plenty of black smoke out the tailpipe and loud leaking from the slip joint. So at least the turbo is working. It seems to have a larger bearing clearance because my oil pressure is reading lower. The sender is on the turbo feed housing, which I'm feeding from the rear gallery port via a short #4 Teflon braided line.

Now I have to drain and refill the transfer case, lucky it's only 2 qts. - Maybe pull the right-side manifold so I can get the Y out of there, or even get lucky and turn the studs out of the manifold. I seem to recall replacing them a few years ago, when I added the factory turbo setup, so they don't bottom out on the factory original hex bodies, and I would have used anti-seize. Crossing fingers.

My other new toy showed up today. Hydraulic battery lug crimper.

My original plan was to just replace the lugs on the old cable. So I split them open with a chisel.

The wire doesn't look bad, just a little bit of corrosion.

So I guess I'm going to sit on it for a little bit until I can decide. I'll probably just spend the $80 on new wire. These can be repurposed for another project.

@chillman88 Check if the corrosion has travelled, it might only be on the first few inches.

Doesn't much matter because I can't cut much off and still use them.

They're really not too bad. If I wasn't doing so much work to this thing I'd just reuse them, but it seems silly to scrimp on this now...

@chillman88 Here is a 30' roll of 2/0 tinned copper marine grade battery cable for $135 on Amazon Warehouse, I've gotten most of my battery cable and heavier gauge wire from the warehouse without any issues.

Odd that it's coming up $219 for me.

The place I normally get wire has it for $6.56/ft. $70 shipped for the 10 feet I'll need.

Wait! You can't use that. It's not red! :joker:

I actually had that same thought at first LOL then I looked and red was a choice.

I have mixed cables. I have a black 4ga wire running to my glow plug controller right next to an extra ground I added of the same type of black 4ga cable. If an electrician saw my truck he would cry LOL

Welded the ring gear back to my flywheel. Before you tell me that is a terrible idea, I want you to know that I am aware. But it worked, so I can’t complain. When I ZF5 swap it I will put in a new flywheel.

I am now trenching for a waterline

Dude, I think it's a fine idea. Certainly not optimal, but will definitely hold until the ZF5 shows up. AND if it goes wry, you'll get to buy all sorts of new stuff for your truck!
