Factory turbo kit - USED Turbo Uppipes Crossover pipe Factory downpipe Intake hat Oil feed line Oil return pedestal $700with driver side cdr valve cover and passenger glow plug valve cover $850 With factory air box $950

I found this listing. Is it a good price?

I want to turbo my 89 7.3 NA and make it into something that can haul a car, toys, and a dump trailer.

Should I just save up for the Banks kit for $3500? What about a waste Gate?

Pretty much going rate, expect to rebuild the turbo and it'd be advised to swap that factory downpipe for literally anything else.

Banks kit is grossly overpriced in my opinion.
Russ sells turbo kits for about $900ish so I think the one you found is a good price.

Does the transmission you plan to go with in the long run make a difference on any of the turbo components that you go with?

Sounds like piece mealing one together would be more expensive.

What are the factory turbo units called/code? I’m a bit unclear on the Sidewinders, ATS093 and others that were offered and what is considered “factory”

You will need a different dipstick tube for the trans. I added a banks trans command also. Makes a difference shifting. That's if you have a e4od. I just did this whole job. For 700 I would get it. You will want to rebuild the turbo. I did aftermarketoil feed line, crossover pipe. Get the stock air cleaner. Oh boy, fun fun fun. Better start tenderizing thefirewall now.

I'd see if you can get the whole works for less than 950... and the turbo is almost certainly in need of a rebuild, which you may be able to do yourself.

As already mentioned, ditch the factory crushed downpipe. A Banks downpipe fits after you lay over the firewall pinch weld with a hammer. At least it did on my NA 7.3 that I bought a similar set up for.

I’ve got an E350 van 7.3idi with the massively long oil tube. I bet that could work.

I have the C6. I was considering getting a gear vendors until I can afford a manual swap one day.

Good to know, I’ll start pricing this out. I haven’t rebuild a turbo before but I’d imagine you’d need a press, which I have.

I’m wondering if I should just buy a 90cc pump and injectors for around $1500 and drive it first before buying the turbo.

The truck takes a bit to start and I don’t know the age of the pump or injectors currently on it.

I guess I should start thinking about getting some turbo pistons to lower the compression.

And maybe get the block sleeved or reinforced in some way

Well if you are going pistons and all, Then stud the motor and and go big on the turbo. Trade the old turbo in for a larger one and go for a 3 inch downpipe. New pump, turbo, etc. Pull the motor, put all the new parts on and drop it back in

How much money, time and effort are you prepared to spend here? As you will find, IDIs are not cheap to build even stock, let alone significantly modified... "Speed costs money, son. How fast do you want to go?"

I ask because you're looking at a used factory turbo kit, which hints that your budget is not unlimited... the gang here will have lots of ideas while we're spending YOUR money ;)

I got a factory turbo setup and Banks downpipe, and bolted it onto my 7.3 NA with rebuilt heads, to get started. Now I have a Classic Diesel Designs replacement with upgraded wheel ($900 plus core). Once I work out that %^&* leaky slip joint, I'm sure it will work great. So I'm into it for basically ~$1800.

That's at 11 psi max boost, since I didn't spend the significant extra money for head studs which are also a PITA to install with the engine in the truck, and it makes enough power for me.

SO be honest - what do you want to haul, and how much to spend?

I had thought that going with pistons to lower the compression was necessary but if it isn’t then id rather hold off on that for now. Did you magnaflux your block or get any machine work to your block when you did this swap
