Coolant filter head question...

I know theres been a few threads on the coolant filter installs, but I have an odd question. Im looking at the wix filter head everyone uses and the outflow port sure is tiny, only about .18", not even a quarter of an inch.
My question is, seeing there is plenty meat on the fitting, could I drill this out a bit larger so the heater core can get more flow? Would that cause the filter to not filter very good?

I'm sure the heater would still function with the small hole, but I get cold easy and when it gets cold outside I do love to blast the heat, I want to make sure it'll be able to keep up! Hahaha -Flame Thr

That filter assembly is supposed to be a bypass filter, not a full flow filter, hence the orifice.
But to answer your question, yes drilling it out should work to convert it to a full flow filter head.

Ok cool that's what I was hoping. Since the heater circuit is already a bypass I didn't really want to have a bypass bypassing a bypass.. lol. Plus I like the idea of losing heat as an indicator of needing to change the filter

In case anyone is curious, this is what it looks like drilled to 3/8, same size as the inlet passage. Don't know how much of a difference it will make as I'm sure only so much can flow through the filter at one time but it makes me feel better.

And here it is installed, also installed the heater core bypass valve mod aswell as some heat definitely leaks by. Tried to keep everything done as clean and simple as possible.

So you have to unbolt it from the fender to change the filter?
No I can get it on and off without loosening it. It is pretty tight tho. I made sure that wasn't going to be the case before I bolted it on, took I bit to find the sweet spot that would allow it to fit. If you have that issue Napa filter 4069 is the same filter just about an inch shorter

OK, I'd like to put the coolant filter in. Where have you E350 types mounted yours? We don't have the room like you F250/350 types, the battery is 3" from the fan motor.

Have that same filter head on my truck. No difference in heater output until filter would start to get restricted.

Honestly I do notice a slight decrease in heater output. The air is still plenty warm, but it isn't quite as hot as it was before I installed it. But living in central Texas, I think it's still plenty warm enough. Winter here usually aren't all that cold.

I suppose all restrictions in the system could add up (plugged core).
I have driven this truck before and after in -20 ambient temps, and the heater was the same
