I found a pic of the old clutch that worked great and the tounges on them are good and flat while torqued and the. Second one is a brand new torqued zf5 clutch also flat

This kinda confirms my suspicion that that pressure plate is off somehow

While the play in the clutch pedal isn’t great but i once used a bolt as the clutch pin fell out and had Much more play than right now and it still disengaged

And I don’t think the slave is moving nearly as much as it should

When you removed the pressure plate, did the tongues raise up as you loosened the bolts? Or were they already all the way raised with the bolts tight? I’ll have to get under my truck and look at my slave movement, but yours looked like it should be enough to disengage the clutch.

They did not when I loosened which was weird as usually when one bolt is loosened that side is aggressively my raised compared to others

If you could grab a vid of your slave movement I’d love that the only other manual I own is a m5od with that internal slave bullsh*t

It should push itself out if I remember correctly about 3/8" or more from the flywheel when loosening the bolts. I'm thinking a little more than half the length of the bolts are under tension.

Does the diaphragm set level where the throwout bearing rides when not bolted up? I am thinking something is wrong with that pressure plate. I am still thinking it sounds like a broken diaphragm. It is kinda hard to inspect the diaphragm but when mine broke it was up inside at a hole where it was riveted to get outer cage

What can cause a bad pressure plate? If it turns out to be the pressure plate I’d like to know why that happened

The one I had break the diaphragm was probably 20 years old so i would assume it was just worn out. But with any of the new stuff my guess would be that they are manufactured with inferior material, and the diaphragm wasn't heat treated properly.

Looks to me by the video, you have a lot of movement before the clutch rod hits the MC to activate the Slave.
I have mine adjusted so I have the smallest amount of plat w/o any pressure on the TO Bearing.

The play is within the pedal assembly not the pedal assem to master linkage

I don't remember the part number of the ones I bought but they were Dorman and looked like that assortment.

Bolted the “suspect” pressure plate on springs maybe compressed 1/8” and where all weird and uneven to each other

Bolted on my old one that did work and all the springs went down a solid 3/8” and where even to each other

and to make it even better I can’t find just a pressure plate at napa I’m going to have to buy a whole kit unfortunately… I’m done buying from Rock auto this is the second clutch kit I’ve had issue with from them maybe y’all have better luck but I do not

On a positive note my russ goodies came today new stainless clutch line, hardline delete kit, and the new injector to fix that dreadful knocking

Good to hear you found the problem. Really sucks not being able to warranty a fairly new part though.

I’m not sure how helpful it is, but here is a photo of my slave cylinder travel on my ZF-5. I have a video, but I don’t see a way to upload it so hopefully the pictures give a good idea.
