Alright guys. I have a 7.3 idit that I took out and am putting back together. I rounded an exhaust housing bolt and asked my friend if he could weld a nut to it and try to get it out as I don’t have a welder. He said sure no problem. A little while later he sent me some pics. He decided that he was going to attempt to hit the nut with a hammer and in doing so missed the nut and hit the turbo. This in turn lead to the breaking of the plate(I don’t know the actual name). I have some pics. It is on the intake side. Wondering if anyone has an spare turbos and could sell me one or even has that part if it is even replaceable.

As much mistreatment as that turbo has seen, I think finding a replacement cartridge would be the way to go. Is this the factory turbo kit or aftermarket?

Those chewed up fins can cause it to be out of balance.
Wonder how long it has been that way, and if any damage to the bearings. These things turn at 100K RPM, so you don`t want one coming apart. May not happen, but could.

Maybe your friend causing the damage was a blessing in disguise?

Wonder what went through it to chew up the Fins?

Dang I wonder what the inside of the engine looks like!? Someone threw some big chunks of sand in the intake or something...

I'm not sure why *you're* asking about all of this...your "friend" should be buying you a new cartridge. ;Poke

If you have the WW2 already, that's one thing. But if not, buy a CHRA from someone that also sells the WW2. I'm sure Russ @typ4 could hook you up and then you'd have it balanced properly to boot.

I personally would compression test the engine first to see if it's worth putting another turbo on. Sometimes the small bits of old fins just get eaten up then spat out the exhaust, and the engine could be okay.

The engine is fine in fact I don’t have the engine in right now. I bought the truck with the turbo that way and it had a rebuilt engine that is now torn down for a rebuild. The engine was in great shape.

If you want to send me the wicked wheel I can build you a replacement cartridge for a pretty good price PM me for details or go through the website. The bolts on the exhaust side have to be heated and soaked in penetrant several times before you start to remove them.
