I have had a look around the vacuum switch, and I coudn't find yet a bare wire or bitten vacuum hose, nor any rodent damage underneath the dash.

Three years ago I changed the (still original) fuel filter for a new one, I only drove 200 miles in the beginning of that period.and after that no more.
now the "fuel filter" light in the bottom RH corner of the instrument cluster comes up, if the engine revs over 2000RPM, and I wonder if someone here can tell me what cause that could have?

Unclear to me from your post how many miles are on this filter. Did you stop driving it after 200, and it's been sitting there for 3 years? Could be green goop grew in there. Use Howes or another additive.

I get IDI filters for about $6 by the box. I'd just change it. Take a look in the one you pull out, maybe cut it open. Crud? Scale? ******?

only If all that was so easy...
you might have missed that I live in Europe?
these filters are rare as hens teeth over here, and equally expensive.
yes only 200 and a bit miles.
I still have to check if there's green or black goop in it. I hope not?

Could always retrofit a different filter head on so you could use easier to get filters.

Yeah if they're unobtanium I'm sure you could find something locally that would work better. Something comparable and common off a boat, tractor, or semi truck.

But for me, the first step in solving this problem is replacing the filter, and then checking it for issues.

Could be the showerhead in the tank is falling apart. Could be fuel hose deteriorating. Could be the lift pump diaghragm or check valves heading south. Could be crap in the fuel from the last fill up.

How much or little you look into this is your call, but the important thing to note is that the filter was plugged and that's what caused your light. Replace the filter and drive on, or start tearing this apart and investigate the source, the call is yours.

right, though I've never before heard of pieces of hardware falling apart coming to be found in the fuel filter, I might start investigating the system. see you the next time I find something out of the ordinary....

does anyone here know about these nylon fuel line connectors Ford uses? I remember a year ago I found a website about those, all explained (4 different models) and you could order them there. but of course, forgotten.
