Sometimes I get thrown out of second gear and the 4 speed does tend to make creative noises. Is there a reputable source for entire new transmission or is a rebuild myself in the future? I am mostly looking to price things out as I know it’s a repair I need to be saving for.

When I got the truck the radiator core support was sketchily welded back together by a previous owner, well it finally let go yesterday. I quickly glued it back together so I could get home from work yesterday without my radiator hitting my fan but I ordered a new one from wrecking yard. The weld I made is not gorgeous, but the steel was trash and I was in a hurry plus I am planning to replace the core support entirely.

That's a common thing with our trucks. I think that it comes with harder use. We used to repair those cracks by placing some angle iron over the crack and welding it on solid. How well did it work? I have no idea, but it was better that when it came in.

I like the pipe clamp and bolt to suck it together. Good thinking.

Angle iron would never fail... it might crack somewhere else but not there again!

It has been wrecked at some point, not a major deal but I can tell the last owner did weird things to put it back together and the whole core support is bent and it messes up the hood alignment and the headlight mounts so a new part is on order.

Should I reinforce the new one before putting it in?

I guess that would be up to you. It wouldn't hurt anything. The one on my Blue Truck isn't cracked. I'm not planning to reinforce it. I don't use my trucks that hard. I don't go off road very often. When I do, I sure don't like to go very fast or hit bumps hard.

So for $200 I was expecting a pretty nice core support but that was not exactly the case, it’s quite cancered out below the battery trays so it will be a fabrication operation.

Fun fact, you can still get brand new trays from LMC, when I converted my dad's crew cab to diesel, that's where he got his, for the same reason.

I have 2 Core Supports I pulled from PNP, that fit my 86, think they are around $45 plus your time removing them.

Going to have them sand blasted next summer and then POR them.

You ought to do that to yours, cut out the rusty metal and bend and form the new sections, and have them welded in.
Other than that they look in good shape.

Too bad Ford just primer`d them, that is no long term protection.

My 93 had a bad support when I bought it. I couldn't find anything completely rust free, so I bought one that had a rusted out tray and the top half was excellent. My old one was opposite, so I cut em' both in half and welded them.
Like brand new afterwards.

Does the core support on the right look like a bull or brick nose? The one on the left is what came out and the one on the right is what I got to replace it but it’s much different.
