Well, the truck has been sitting far too long while I play with it. I am about to fire it off in another few days after I play with more things, and I am wondering.
Is it possible to remove the shraeder valve from the top of the fuel filter, stuff a rubber hose over that valve and back fill the fuel system?
I figure to use a cheapy TEMPORARY electric pump and prime the fuel system so it hopefully fires off quickly after the glow plugs cycle once.
I figured that would fill the filter, lines and the IP.
I did order a Pegusus pump just now to add in line back by the switching valve. That will be an in~line back up pump to the mechanical pump.

I wouldn't. That schrader is after the filter and would be filtered fuel. I assume you won't be filtering the fuel that your inserting? Pushing fuel into there will only fill the filter and line to the injection pump. It won't do anything for the IP or the injector lines. Cranking it while holding your foot to the floor is all you really need to do. You can pre fill the filter through the outer holes if you'd like, but with a good system it doesn't take much cranking.

If you have clean fuel, it'll work. I do something similar to engines at work, where I fill them on the post-filtered side. Just don't make a habit of it.

I figured to use a 5 gallon bucket of diesel with the hose stuffed about 12 inches down into it. Far off the bottom and away from dirt/water.
My desire was to fill the filter and fuel line from the mechanical lift pump up to the I/P. The filter is 99% filled up, I just don't desire to crank the engine waiting to fill the filter, etc.
It would be nice to see it fire and run with no problem.

Stick a compressed air line(blow gun) in the fuel fill, and stuff a rag around it to pressurize the system. If done right, it works well

This.....and if you do it with the cold advance solenoid energized, injection pump will be full also.

Well, the weather guessers are calling for some cold weather for the next week roughly and I am not going to even try to start this toy in less than 35 degrees when ~I~ don't even go outside to play. So it will sit for a week starting tomorrow.

How does it get past the transfer pump?
I always assumed some could get through, But I usually do a few short cranks while the tank is pressured or electric pump running. If I know that there is most likely still fuel in the injection lines I will do all of this with the wire pulled from the fss.

I always get a little confused by the whole priming the fuel system thing, I can change my filter, change my lines, change my manual lift pump, and still fire off in a few cranks with fuel only in the tanks and maybe a little hanging around inside the IP. What’s the need for it? Maybe I have just had good luck.
