Hello again. This is getting to be fun. '94 idi. The first battery goes directly to the starter.
The second battery goes to the first battery. When jump starting the battery hook up to the first battery.
So any problem with hooking a winch up to the second battery? Currently a Warn 12K or I could stuff in that cheap HF toy. HF magnets are glued in and do not like to be overheated.
They will not survive. Warn are bolted in. . . They are more likely to survive.
There is a place in Prineville, Or that makes decent looking winch bumpers.
This upgrade might be a few dollars down the road.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't.

Yer thinking about the power path half-way right...
Jump starting you want the good power source ( jumping rig) pushing power to the starter in the shortest path.....
Then let the alternator bring em back up.

Now winching you want to pull from both,
technically you are.

So where is the alternator poing?
Hook up downstream of this so the alternator can keep feeding both batteries, then the winch.
As low voltage will kill the winch pdfq.
Overheating is #2.
Pulling the voltage down for 1 battery is the thing that is going to start to degrade the battery.

What you have is one battery in two places. That is why they are connected in parallel (+ to + and - to -). This keeps the voltage at about 12 volts but the current is double to the starter and winch.
