Not much going on with the truck. We again traveled to southern Utah to find some sun, but ended up in weather colder than home!

Yesterday was much warmer, but it’s usually in the high 50s to low 60s this time of year. First time I’ve ever seen snow this low out here.

A few cool old rigs; one IH truck to keep this sorta on topic. Had a great time talking with the owners of these unique rigs. There was a Scout there too, but I somehow forgot to get a photo.

Weird things you see at the dunes:

We also visited the memorial for the fallen. A very beautiful and humbling tribute.

Today, I did what I would have done yesterday if I had known how much snow we were going to get. I cut some firewood. I didn't think that a trailer would work very well with the amount of snow that we had on the ground. First, I had to start by shoveling a path around the front of my trailer so that I could get my bar oil and a couple of chains out of the tool box on the front. It will also help out when it comes time to hook onto it next week to cut some more. Then I stopped as soon as I had gotten off the highway so I could lock in the hubs. That was a smart move since the road hadn't been plowed, not to mention the pasture I was cutting in. Everything that I cut today was already on the ground and the first one was pretty big and covered in snow. I hooked a chain around it and drug it out to where I had driven to make it easier to cut. The rest was all quite a bit smaller so I didn't bother to drag any out. I did cut one branch that had fallen onto the owner's fence. What i cut will certainly keep me warm for mare than a week. It took about 1 1/2 hours to cut and load this much. Wading through 8" or so of snow slows things down plus I couldn't see what's underneath the snow so I didn't get very close to most of what I did cut. It was 23* when I left, the sun was shining, and there wasn't much wind. Overall, it was a pretty nice day. This is why I feel that I have to have one truck that's 4X4. The others can be 4X2 and it won't matter.

Ya know, you are suppose to make hay when the sun shines, not in the middle of winter. ;Poke

I had a guy bring me 4 cords this fall, but the way we have been going through it,, should have got 6. This winter is a doozie for what we usually get out here. Old timers say they haven`t seen it like this in 30 years.
Thrilled I get to experience it.

probably have a foot to 18" left, but what we have seems to have turned into concrete.

Since the 86 is only one wheel drive, I have had to throw on the Snow Cables. bought them back in 2014 when we were moving over here from Commiefornia. probably used them 6 times since. This season Iam trying to wear them out. Really getting good and R&Ring them.

I finally broke 2 of the cross cables on one side.
Now if you run Chains, there are replacement cross links to repair them, but for Cables, nothing available.

So I got to thinking,, why not start looking in the thrift stores for Chain & Cables people donate?
Check Good Will, and then run over to Classy Seconds. They have a brand new set, but for a 2013 Ford Edge. (What ever that is)
The cross cable needs to be 14", and these are the exact length. Although not quite a beefy as the ones for the 86, but should work.

Just need to pry up on the bent over on the piece crimped onto the cable, and they come right off.
I have a wood chisel I use for a scraper, and was perfect to catch the bent over piece and open it up.

Get the new one`s on, and with something solid like your Vice, bend the piece down tight and you are back up and running.
Not sure how many new cross pieces are on these Edge cables, but should hold me over for quite a while.

To keep people honest, I put a set of these tie down rings down ea inside wall of the bed. 3 down ea side.
Drill the 1/4" hole, use a carriage Bolt, with a fender washer on the back side and a Ny-lock Nut.

Then Padlocked the Cables to the ring.

Couple weeks back did order a new set of cables from www.tirechains.com, and made in the U.S.A. These are twice as heavy duty as the O`Really Chicom one`s I originally purchased. They may have been $60 - $80 back then, and these were $106.

On that note:
Today actually started last night after work. I hooked onto my trailer and loaded up the second three wheeler in it because it was time to cut some more fire wood. This morning, I got an early start at 5:00. I wanted to leave the house ay 7:00, but got distracted and it was 7:15 instead. I dropped the trailer off at my garage which is about half way to the town I was going to. First, I got a hair cut, then I bought a new chain for my bigger saw, next I stopped at Dollar General, then I bought some fuel and treated it with Howe's because of the cold coming in, finally, I got some breakfast and headed back to my garage. I put both three wheelers away in the garage, hooked onto to the trailer, and went out to cut some wood. By this time, it was already getting colder. I cut about the size of load that I usually do and headed home. I cut some extra smaller branches to use as starter pieces. The only tree that I cut down was longer than my truck and trailer, which may not sound like much, but Kansas is supposed to be flat and treeless. When I put these tires on the trailer about 1 1/2 years ago, I put 35PSI in them. I haven't check the air pressure for several months and they may be lower than that. I took a picture of one because there was some discussion of running tires at lower pressures and I wanted to show how they looked with a load at lower air pressure. I was hoping to be home by between 12:30 and 1:00. I pulled into town at 12:50 so I was pretty happy with that.

Took the Y pipe off my dad's truck to clean up the header flanges and put it back up with some sealant, the right bank was leaking. Also replaced his front sway bar link bushings.
Also went to the wrecking yard to look at another 7.3, sadly it was picked pretty clean. IP, rocker covers, and rockers and push tubes missing.

You ought to go back, and pull the intake Manifold, and gently with a thin putty knife, remove the Valley Pan.
Remember to remove the drain plug at the back, takes a 3/8" extension to fit the square hole.

IDIBRONCO, that tire doesn`t look too squished.
The Howes` you are using, same as for Diesel Fuel?

First time I ever bought any, but tonight is getting down to -2. This Global warming is a killer.
Put in 4oz, figured had 20 gal in rear 38 gal tank. took her for a spin to get it through the system.

Yes it's for diesel. I don't think that 4oz./20 gal is enough. It calls for what seems to be a pretty large amount. That's why I only use it for an anti gel.
That's why I included the tire picture. To show that you can run lower pressures in our tires and it will be fine.

For 3 years I’ve used permatex ptfe thread sealant and I’m done with it, the performance is poor with diesel. That leaves rectoseal or monster to switch to. I picked up monster.

There's a guy that I've known for 20 years. I worked with him for probably half of that. On January 8, he fell off of a ladder from about 14 feet up. He's supposed to be getting out of the hospital on Thursday. He'll be in a wheelchair for at least another 6 weeks after he gets out. He and his wife are buying a house and moving from their hobby farm back into town. The hospital will sell them a board (of some type) so that he can slide into and out of the wheelchair, but it's not long enough for him to get into a car. He made a pattern of what he wanted and asked me to make him one out of oak instead. I finished it and took it to his wife tonight. There was a home made wheelchair ramp in the garage of this house. His oldest son built it for another guy who lived there and died of cancer. His brother, who lived in the house with him, cut it apart after he was gone and stuck it in the garage. I helped another guy drag it out, patch it together and put it up so that it can be used again for the new owner. This is 15 miles west of where I live and it's about 2 1/2 blocks from my garage.
