Elkridge MD Craigslist has an 89 F350 4x4 crewcab dually 5dspd 7.3 idi with sidewinder and wrecker bed for $3000. Doesn't currently run however appears intact.
I've seen that on marketplace, it looks like a decent deal.
I'm hoping to find something ready to go however, since I'm selling my daily driver now.
Otherwise something like that would be great.

I figured someone like you would show-up with a crescent wrench, a pair of vice grips, and a Leatherman and have it running in 10 minutes! Seriously, I understand when you want a runner, all find are "projects" and vice versa.

I’ve also seen that. We got the same filters running. I filter 87-93 diesel manual trans trucks and try to buy everything reasonable that comes up. Id like the wrecker but I’m out of room. Plus what I really need currently is a 2wd f super duty manual trans.

Almost, you forgot about a hammer, lol.
Yeah, it really looks like a good deal for someone wanting a project. I really wouldn't mind under different circumstances.
There's only like 3 IDIs within 100 miles beside that. All are late production models. 1 is a zf5, I may check out. It's a factory turbo.

Here's the link for anyone else curious.

Is that a cracked frame in the 8th picture between the spring perch and trans crossmember?

Around here trucks don't sit. Guys will run them in to the ground, and then past that, before they let it sit. Because of that, I guess I'm skeptical of one of these rigs sitting in the weeds, as it was put there for a reason. More so if it was parked and had parts removed from it. Nobody parks and parts out a good running truck.

That was my first thought too. Looks like rust flake though from the picture.

I have a wrecker that looks in similar condition. The frame will literally flake off in your hands.

Yeah I'm a little bit skeptical too!

Around here, bit different. Bought a truck just like that recently. Frame is plated. The guy broke the hardline on the lift pump. Parked it in the woods and bought a new f450. I bought it, basic IDI tinkering and then drove it for 6 hours. I bet that motor is toasted on the wrecker but you don’t know till you go and look.

Ideal for me would be an IDI rollback It would need to be able to haul my f350 though and I’m not certain on their ratings. The crew cab config wrecker is sweet though.

Don't really need the wrecker part, but a 4x4 dually zf? Sold.

I wonder how many idi's were parked after a frustrated owner (whose not handy with a wrench) simply gave up. Let's be honest, these engines and especially the fuel system and glow plug system can be extremely ******* your wallet if you're just throwing parts at them, and equally test your patience. I'm certain that's how I got my first idi. I got that old horse back on its feet and rode it another 100,000 miles. And not because I was an " ace mechanic" rather a young poor family man and needed a cheap truck. This forum pulled my bacon out of the fire many times!
