Well, here is another stuck glow plug post. I finally got it out after owning the truck for 4-ish years. When I bought the beast, 3 of 8 GPs were stuck. 2 came out with the visegrip/wire/hammer method, but the rear on the driver's side was a ****** and there just wasn't room to get a good swing with a hammer back there. So I threaded it back in and for 3 years drove regularly with 7 GPs doing the work of 8.

Well, I switched over to black diesel this year and, as it gets colder, good glow plugs are clearly a must. I've had a manual button for some time (and now have a 2-tank system so I start/stop on 1202), but I could tell that I need everything I can get to get this pig going in the mornings under 40*F, if oil is in the mix (block heater fixes all, of course).

So I looked into, and purchased, a leroy diesel GP extractor. I don't like spending that much on a single-function tool, but it seemed my best option. So I went in an did it. And it worked. Found a delphi GP-8 with a super swollen tip and also a bit bent (probably bent from my original extraction attempt). It came out, but I was worried at points given the force on the ratchet felt a bit like I was about to break off a spark plug in a head.

I can also say that Im glad to have pre-purchased a gross of 111 viton orings. I had to move the return lines to get at that rear GP, and it leaked diesel as soon as I moved it a froghair. new orings and no issue.

The truck fired up very well after I buttoned it all back up. I had an extra glow plug in my cabinet, of course, since I could only replace 7 the first time.

Its free to use with your visit. I also have one of those NOS government timing-devices that I continue to put off using - best ~$200 I ever spent... I ran into one road block (opening up the hole to accept the balancer probe) and consequentially found a bunch of other projects that seemed more valuable, but really aren't, lol.

Michigan just isn't in my future.

Can you set timing with just that? My kit definitely has the #1 connector - I just thought you needed both?

Totally off topic, but I take advice where I can get it.
You also need a timing light. This method may cost more, but fewer people seem to have problems with the timing light set up compared to the mag probe.

I didn't want to spend the $ for the light.
But I didn't have much luck opening up the hole for the probe. Maybe my drill bit was a bit under-sized?
I ended up sanding down the probe a bit. But it works fine for me now.
