Hard to see but the poly coating on these splines is flaking in sections. Drive shaft shop says it won't balance because it's flaking but no one supposedly makes the proper stub end anymore.

What do y'all think? My thoughts are take all the poly coating off with a new carrier bearing and send it

I have the same problem but don't have a solution yet. My plan is to simply find a shop to build me a new one, even if it means using a newer style slip coupling. It gives a vibration at 50 MPH and again around 65 MPH.

Mine isn't flaking but it's been damaged years ago. So I'm in a similar boat. I'm thinking about running Balance Masters driveshaft balancers. I just installed Centramatic wheel balancers and they work well. Obviously different company but same concept.

Without the spline coating dip the tolerances are different which can make the shaft sloppy / noisy / out of balance. Some shops get a new stub and cut off your old and weld and balance a new one on. A trick I heard but haven't tried is that you can clean all of the remaining plastic off and then coat it with moly dry before putting it back together and greasing.

Weird, I took mine to a driveline shop and they had replacement ends. Maybe it's a vendor issue now.

Blue stuff is a slip coating, teflon I believe. Nobody recoats them as far as I know, only replace. Driveshaft shop won't balance because without the coating it will be a sloppy fit and won't spin right. Need to replace the stub end, they were still made last I knew. If not, they should be able to source a different stub and matching yoke that will work.
