They're extremely nice pieces of IDI jewelry but I don't think they're mandatory. I'd try and fix what you've got but i'm sure you're pretty frustrated with it by now as I was.
Your right but it does seem like a permanant fix

I've discovered that the caps that come off are best myself. I mean really, how can they wear out just don't break them when you take them off.
I didn't use the new ones that came with my injectors either. Mostly because I was lazy and didn't feel like messing with all those hoses.
But the old ones have been holding fine once I found o-rings that they liked.
And I have 8 brand new spare caps if I ever need them.
Those rails do look slick, though. If/when I need to have this engine rebuilt I'll probably go with those. And a turbo. And a tranny that doesn't mind going over 60mph. ;-)

I get my caps from my favorite Auto Supply...PNP.

I have grabbed quite a few that looked pretty new, so a life time supply.
On the "O" RINGS, I buy them from McMaster-Carr, Viton size 111, bag of 50 for around ten bucks.
never had a problem with them.

How ever if you do move the caps some, they will, maybe,
most likely start to leak. Some time if you look at them wrong they will weep some.

I have been pretty leak free for the most part.

There is a guy that makes the brass caps, think it is Dregs Garage or something like that. Pricey? yeah, but they will last for ever.

Could the selector valve bieng bad cause this?
The tank valve? I don’t think so unless it’s happening to all of them and just not returning anything. For testing purposes you could place your return line in a bucket and see if it fixes it.

I may try that, it seems to work fine just trying to chase this damn leak

Make sure you liberally apply a lubricant to the o rings too. Like the super lube CD sells in the kit or just some petroleum jelly. Don’t be shy either.
