What’s the deal with its vss?

I honestly didn't know they had a vss. My knowledge of them is pretty limited honestly. But it makes sense that it might be for the E4OD though.

Keep a couple rocks in your bed.

I guess that might work if I take it to a bribable safety inspector lol

Same what I was thinking and working towards OPs question is I don't think it would have a factory vss, I'm not very confident on this but I think the 10.25 vss would fit or the vss/rabs combo from the later time when they switched over but would a bricknose d80 have a tone ring? Would the vss or whatevers in there pick it up? Would a none rabs vss send the right signal to the rabs? Throwing questions out there I'm not sure the answer to without having hands on this to figure out what hes got.

The handful of super duties I've seen at the wrecking yard used the D80 rear axle with discs, and had a 4wd zf with a drum brake on the driveline in place of a t case. Still had the gear driven speedo cable. Honestly never checked if they had RABS or not.

Wasn't that for the speedometer? It was also for the few F Superdutys that had an E4OD.
My speedo is mechanical drive off the e-brake assembly. Maybe it’s there for trucks of that year equipped with E4od, not sure what else for though.

I didn't register this until I saw @IDIBRONCO had it in quotes, but my zf5 doesn't have a hole for a speedometer. My assumption has been that it came off a more modern electronic engine (ie powerstroke) and a computer figured how fast you were going by some esoteric means, but maybe it's out of one of these type of trucks with a speed sensor in the differential?
Correct, the speedo is drive off the e-brake on my truck.

I’m guessing they didn’t, but I’m not positive. I’ve learned a lot from everyone’s post on here.

I’m pretty confident it’s the original D80 in there, and mabybe the vss was for an e40d set up or gasser option.

I thought about swapping one in but I'd lose my parking brake and that's a deal breaker because local inspection laws require an emergency/parking brake here. The F-Superduty trucks used a 4x4 version of the transmission with a parking brake bolted on the back of the transmission where a transfer case would go. There are no provisions for a parking brake on the Dana 80 except for possibly a Dodge version but that's beyond the scope of this thread lol.
In addition to the factory trans mounted ebrake on this truck, someone also installed a line lock on the rear brakes.

So this is probably worth a post of its own, but I found a rolling chassis at a friends house. I’m close to getting my hands on it. Major props to whomever can identify what it is...

I have no idea what that axle is, but it looks like a zf with a tcase on it.

Are you sure it's a rolling chassis? It looks like it's sitting on the ground

I count 10 lugs.... I wonder if that ia a Marmon-Harrington F-Superduty 4x4 conversion (took a 2wd F-Super and made it 4x4).... like was a phone, or power company, fire truck in a past life........

Plus the front hubs are not factory Ford. They say Selectro on them. Which made me think that it's a conversion.
