Welcome to the forum.

Olives are "gaskets" that look like a section of hose. They are on both ends of the hard fuel line from filter head to injection pump and there's one on the line from lift pump to filter head.
If you have an early 6.9 with hard return line, it has two olives.
I don't have a pic.
You'll find more info. by typing "olive" into the search box (top right of screen).

If you'll put a description of your truck in your signature, the forum will be able to help you more efficiently.

Depending on your year of engine, there may be a steel return line on the driver’s side that I believe has olive(s) on it as well. They basically get squeezed between a nut and the steel line to create a seal. They are typically rubber, but I found some viton replacements a while back that should last a lot longer than the rubber ones. Look up Parker vibra-lok 60VLV-5 (5/16” size) and 60VLV-6 (3/8” size).

As IDIBRONCO says, sometimes you can tighten the nut a bit and stop a leak, but it's usually only a temporary fix. The olives get old, and they become brittle. They take the shape of the fitting they're in. Any movement is more likely to cause a leak than to fix one.

Here is a picture of an olive on a hard line. Next to it is a new olive, about to be installed. Note the shape of the olive on the hard line. It was once new and pristine, like it's replacement.

Here is the Hard Line delete line from Filter to Injection Pump.

You also can replace the hard Line from Lift Pump to Filter with a rubber hose.

Some times those old Olives almost have to be burned out
they have become so old and hard..

I wondered what those rings were in the injector kit I installed. Sure glad I didn’t toss them out.

I have to also recommend the hard line delete. I used the kit from Classic Diesel Designs, it was well worth the money, and only 30 minutes to install.
