1994 e 350 7.3 idi ambulance package. Alternator replacement.

Total mechanical idiot here. That was going to become obvious quickly but I'll say it anyway.
I have killed all ambo function and separated the box electrical from cab n chassis. Alt is out. I am waiting on a possible one wire alt to get here to see if I can upgrade. I have many questions but will wait on most. First off, I can't identify this part via Google. I believe it's the wire harness plugged into this unit. It was attached to the front wall by radiator. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, wade.

The old alternator regulator should be located on the passenger's fender. Your picture looks like a relay for horn or headlights; no guarantee's. The new one wire alt needs only a wire going to the battery . You can leave the old wiring alone. Just make sure the new wire is heavy enough, like a 8 gauge or a 6 gauge wire. It has been so long I don't remember the gauge of that wire.

Here is a wire gauge for current chart. Looks like 6 ga is enough for 100 amp alternator.

Iam replacing it with a 200 amp. The old one was a 270. The wire is 2/0. They can't rebuild my old one as it was a lestek 270 they are out of business. I just want to be able to replace it with a modern one that I can access. My bracket is an 180 degree 8.25 in. I get the feeling the standard alt mount bracket for an e 350 was different. I would have stayed with an external regulator model. But could not find one to bolt in to my configuration. Learning.

Do you really need 200 amps? You are NOT using it as an ambulance and do not need that much current. 100 amps works very well for 90% of truck users. Off road lights and such will be fine with 100 amp service.

The guy at motor city reman gave me the option of 160 or 200. I went big I guess. There were options down to 90.

Quick update , alternator came. took 4 days to build and about that long to get here. bolted right in. lined up. it is smaller than the old ambulance alternator so I had that working with me. put a new belt on and it seems to be working. I drove it around for an hour yesterday and all seems well. it seems to send 14.2 to the battery.
my only gripe is that its a 200 amp alt , one wire. it comes with a 1/4 in post thats surrounded by some plastic thing. the post was also a shorty so you could not tack on washers to build it up. it takes sizeable wire to move that many amps. long story short I had to make my own lugs from copper tubing. also downsized to 2/0 to 2 ga. we wil see how long it lasts.
