Do you go on many jeep trails with your caddy, lol. I've never seen a winch on one of those. Kind of interesting....

Rock
Yep, worlds first 65 Deville with a fully functional winch. It’s bolt on removable and tied into primary 3/8” frame brackets and multiple 1/8” support points.

It’s use - most of the work I do in the garage is heavy IDI stuff and often I’m alone. Moving vehicles, engines and drivetrain components are a pain to impossible without a second hand. All of that changes and is accomplished using the winch setup on the Cadillac. It’s uses are pretty innovative and endless around the yard too. You can snatch block disabled cars onto trailers. This all works because the caddy is full frame weight of a truck.

I’ve done some initial measuring the long term plan is to swap a 7.3 IDI into the car. I also plan to swap out the rear for something from a truck because the factory Cadillac rear is strong but not servicable and riveted so I’m stuck with open diff and high gearing. Once I swap the rear I’ll put a selectable locker, high gearing, and a receiver on the rear frame.

Outside of the caddy I’m currently on a multi-year strategy to align all my vehicles to use 7.3 IDIs and associated components.

Bricknose truck - turbo 7.3 in-progress wrapping up this year
65 caddy - will drive with the 429 until the truck is stable and then it will come in for its build. I currently have a decent setup on it with the 429 and electronic ignition conversion among other mods including the winch.
Bricknose bronco - currently working on potentially trading one of my non-IDI vehicles for this which will be on the roadmap for IDI.

Chevy has made racing and performance affordable for amateurs for decades. Wether you want to build a old 350 (Tons of engines and parts still out there.), run a big block, or get in the LS game with a crate motor.

Dodge has jumped back in the game with some new crate engines and the computer to run them. Also brought back the Charger and Challenger. Stuffing Hemi’s in lots of their cars, trucks, and SUV’s.

Lots of stuff to make your Mustang roll faster but not as much focus from Ford in the muscle car market and race market. Thus a lot of “Ford” race cars running Chevy engines. 5.0 mainly found only in the Mustangs the last two decades. Cars and trucks got the 4.6l and 5.4l engines. So not ton of spare parts to be scavenged off other ford vehicles. Many Mustangs got the wimpy v6 making the challenge for parts even worse.

So in 10 years you may be looking at a LS Swap as parts for our trucks dwindle. Or get freaky with a Tesla swap with solar panels for your bed and roof. But more likely many of us will evolve to PowerStrokes as we reach 400,000-500,000 miles or the parts just become too challenging to get. So milk that free waste oil as long as you can. Because paying $7 a gallon here sucks!
Sorry, I resist change. But I ran into a guy with "the 87 Chevy" short bed that's supposed to have a TBI 350(remember when the Chevy guy bragged about his TBI 350) but it had an LS. So you can't use the classic line, "hey! That ole Chevy got a 350?" because it probably doesn't. But when I trade in my truck, I'm going to horses. Screw electric cars and electronically controled motors. Arabian horses, just like George Washington, Napoleon, and Jeff Davis!

Chevy people are the “normals”, everyone does an ls swap in everything cause it makes sense for a lot of reasons and are strong well supported engines. The weird people are the ones that are into a niche 900lb diesel boat anchor that makes 185hp/388tq. I’m still gonna swap an IDI into everything I can. Anyone can do an LS.
I hope my boat anchor makes that much power. I really like my underpowered boat anchor, it runs on waste motor oil! That's makes my engine "well supported" Id vote for it.
The caddy is genius! I had a '77 with a 425. Last year of Cadillac big blocks. It was also the last new Cadillac Elvis could have bought. That was a really strong engine, I've always said that if I ever built an old Chevy something or other I'd use that drivetrain.

I’d call it versatile.

Well supported? They don’t even sell the diesel specific core support anymore. IE - the non ac IDIs used the 460 ac/non-ac core support and the AC IDIs which were most of the production had unique core supports.

On that topic, just finished up converting a gas core support for the IDI. Remember this @quickster ?

Well fellas, sadly my stock air box hasn't shown up via next day air ups, tracking is stuck at 'label created' since Friday, so today I'm going to make my 103 mile trip one way to the lake with loaded camper and boat, and hope my custom intake works. I'm sure it will, I've seen other people do it in the past, doesn't mean I still don't like it! I'll be bringing tools with me, in case I have to turn the pump down while I'm out, since I'm going to be fully loaded and hit a few hills. Wish me luck!

I'm sure you're good though. Your custom air box is sweet. If you saw mine you'd either cry or call the police. And if you could see what happens at a FedEx or UPS center, you'd be surprised that anything gets where its supposed to.

The lack of airline staff and many pilots on strike are probably factors, especially for something meant for express. But even before the strikes, the airlines were canceling thousands of flights. So, it's probably sitting in an airport or on a plane somewhere.

I really want to comment on this in a big way, but I'll just say a small piece because I really don't do politics and I'm probably wrong somehow. So part of the reason I decided to leave UPS before I married them as a career is, UPS is part of a union (leftist cult) and since Florida's governor decided to do something (I could care less what) the union decided that UPS didn't have to meet the service times that CUSTOMERS HAD PAID FOR!!! and UPS said it was the governor's fault. I might add that they changed our loading #system so we couldn't even put the express packages in the correct area for the driver's that might have wanted to buck their protest. Im just not going to be a dumb political pawn. I'd rather make pennies, and do my lawn mower hustle and drive a beat up dually on used motor oil. I'm done.

This was the best Wilson and I could come up with. It works!
Tell Wilson, it’s a little freaky but short and sweet works!

Looks like a re-useable air filter. Soak in gas or a cleaner, spray with compressed air, and spray with a little oil.

You just need to turn your retired still into a refinery and make a gallon or two of gas and your air cleaner will look as good as new. -Flame Thr

It does need a cleaning.
