Hi everyone I am currently looking at a 93 f250 with the 7.3l and the manual 4x4. I saw a thread already but any more info on dealers diesel. Link to engine running and overall sound and exhaust. Any input would be helpful has a minor tick on deceleration.

Sounds decent to me.

1) How much is he asking?
2) How many miles?
3) What work has he done recently?
4) What is not working?

Some issues
1) Fuel seems turned up. Smokes a bit when reved up.
2) Vacuum pump sounded like it was on the way out.
3) It’s leaking oil pretty good from the looks of it.

Some thoughts
1) Check the blowby by opening the oil cap. Expect some but not a ton if the engine is healthy.
2) Have a reputable diesel shop do a compression check and car inspection.

My 86 had a Dealers Diesel in it when I first got it, it was a 6.9 bored .030 over. But the turbo had dicintigrated on it and sent stuff in the engine. I still got it running and drove it for a year before the oil started getting past the rings on #8. It's still a good block though. There's a copper tag on in front of one of the heads that has a serial number on it. I think your tapping is an injector, maybe. Those motors make a bunch of noice, it's not rod knock. The fuel is definitely turned up. Have fun!

I agree. I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

A lot of engines with a turbo will smoke on acceleration before the turbo has the chance to spool up in order to start burning the extra fuel. There may be nothing wrong here.
2) Vacuum pump sounded like it was on the way out.
Again, I agree with this.

I didn't hear any tapping. With straight exhaust, you'll get a raspy sound like that. Now as far as the stack goes, I'll just say that my true opinion on that isn't allowed on this family friendly forum.

Sounds like an IDI Diesel to me, just normal sounds.
Give the engine a good steam cleaning to get down to see what/where any leaks are. I have a Hotsy Steam cleaner, hot water power washer.

Get a vacuum Gauge to see where the Vacuum is to really test it. I don`t detect a problem just by the video.

Never heard of a Diesel Dealers.

10k was asking I told him I’m nowhere near that.
194xxx miles so I’m assuming injectors need done. It had minimal blow by compared to the last couple idi trucks I’ve looked at but
the steering had an insane amount of slop and it badly needed an alignment.

I thought I heard a tapping up by the engine, but the IDI makes so much noice anyway that it's almost impossible to diagnose. When I got my first IDI, I really thought something was wrong. But they really sound like that.

Well if it needs a steering box, steering components, pump, injectors, vacuum pump, and other work sound more like a $6-7k truck to me. 2 years ago that would have been a $4-5k truck.

6yrs ago I paid $1600 for my 86 Crew cab dually. I couldn't hear it run, couldn't even touch the key until I did a bunch of stuff. But I'm a gambling man when it comes to rusty old trucks, honestly I'm not sure how to approach buying a vehicle that cranks up and runs. I wouldn't have leverage to deal, if it won't crank up I can imagine all sorts of problems that can bring the price down to scrap metal. So here's the main questions I ask:

1- Is it cool?
2-Can I afford it?
3-Does my wife think it's cool too?

And everything else can be fixed.

Buying a truck is one thing, now do you have the money to fix and the parts that are the problem areas?

I found mine on CL with 192K, guys price was $2500 OBO, so i offered $18 and he took it. Now will it make it the 152 miles back home? It did, and the engine is still going with
324K miles now. of course I had to replace everything around it, suspension, tires, clutch, and......it goes on.
Still on what ever IP and Injectors that were in it.

The problem isn`t always the engine, can the rest of the truck keep up with it?

Having a good understanding Wife is great, that puts up with my stupid decisions.

I’m still feeling 2 years ago prices and will probably hit him with 4K. If he doesn’t bite that’s fine I’ll keep my money. Have seen other trucks in my area hang around FB until about that price.
How much do we think steering components would cost to replace if any one has an estimate?

Here is Rock Auto, start poking around in the Steering and Suspension and see what prices for the various components.
Ball Joints, Drag link, Tie rods, Bushings etc....

Tick on acceleration can be caused by exhaust leak at manifold connection. Every so often I have to retighten the pipe on the drivers side.
