While it does happen, it not very often at all. The mechanical lift pumps are pretty reliable.

All the mechanical lift pumps I’ve seen have bleed ports built in as well. Apparently it’s to keep the fuel from running into the crankcase in the event of a diaphragm failure. Not that it’s impossible for fuel to get in there, but conditions have to be a certain way for it to happen.

I have the facet pump on my 7.3 NA. I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge installed but feel like it works great. Plenty of power and my fuel filter light never comes on. My main reason for going electric was the ability to purge air from the system without having to crank and crank the engine. I bought the facet based on the recommendations of several YouTubers, but if I had been a member here at the time and read others’ mixed experiences with the facet I probably would have bought a Holley red pump and regulator.

I put this together specifically for priming, and it will get you there if the mech pump fails.
I like that setup. Do you wire it to “key on” power, or do you have a manual switch and only use it to prime before cranking the engine?

I've also seen several people mention that the Facets quit working in a short time or some that were bad right out of the box. Personally, even on a N/A truck, I wouldn't bother with a Facet at this point. I might if I was planning to use it as a transfer pump to pump fuel from one tank into the other. After saying that, I have to admit that I don't use one for a transfer pump. I'm using a Carter on the Blue Truck and have another one on hand for the Ex Wife.

But then again, some say the Mr Gasket 12D pump is way too small and breaks too easily, yet it was on my F250 when I got it and I put 15k on it and it still worked when parked late 2020, so you just never know.

On my RV, I can backwards turn the key to fire up the pump without the glow plugs firing.

I don’t know why people hate on the facet pumps. I guess they just aren’t running enough of them. No pressure drop issues here. LOL

A picture says a thousand words. As you hinted to, I think it is most members start with one facet pump and can have issues. VS some like you run two. Those of you running two seem to have better luck.

It's on a toggle switch on the four-wheel drive, it's key on the dually because I have it put a switch in to cut it off
