That's pretty brag worthy. My truck drinks oil, some of it on purpose (WMO for fuel), but too much of it sneaks past the rings. It was a junkyard motor so I have no idea what my mileage is. Great job maintaining your machine! KEEP ON TRUCKIN'!!!!

Just wanted to brag a bit here: but my rig has got 224500 miles on it, and it doesn’t burn a drop of oil. I use rotella t5 15w40. Same drain plug, 7.3 power stroke oil filter. Not a single drop of oil burned. Pretty sweet.

All of the IDIs I had would burn a lot of oil. I'm talking a consistent 2 gallons per 1k miles.......
IDIs are like 2 stroke Detroits, if you can keep oil in em', they'll last forever.

I don’t think I’d put up with that kind of oil consumption. That’s pretty bad whether you’re talking 2 strokes or IDI’s.

I go through a bunch of oil, more than I want to admit to. But since I run WMO I figure it's cheaper than a gallon of diesel.

Yup, it was definitely a lot more oil than I would have wanted, but they all ran great otherwise and never missed a beat. I don't know any of the history on them, but I don't think any of my trucks had an easy life, and they were all but 1 over 200k when purchased.

Oil consumption seems to be a normal thing with these. All of the 6.9s I have had would burn atleast a quart per both tanks. The 7.3s were much better usually a quart between oil changes. My current truck (mainly used truck since 02) has always been inconsistent. At 170k when I bought it it would use a quart or two between 3k changes and sometimes didnt use any. Now at nearly 400k, It rarely goes past a 1000 miles without needing a quart, and most of the time it needs more than that. Uses much less when being worked vs. unloaded and short trips.

Due to numerous oil leaks, I add about 1 quart per 1000... I also seal coat the parking lot a work for free.................. The oil leaks onto the parking lot and the west Texas sandstorms do the rest.

I loose 2-3 quarts per 3,000 miles. Someone mentioned once that it seems like these eat oil till they get a couple quarts low, then stop. I keep wondering if there is some truth to that. My truck seems to eat more the first 1,000 miles. (Goes from full to -1 or 2 quarts.) Makes me wonder if the crank hits and splashes the oil when full. Thus causing more oil on the cylinder walls, that goes into the rings and gets burned. Or perhaps creates a mist and gets blown out the CDR valve. It just makes me wonder. Well either way I do not loose sleep over it.
