If the original engine ate the crank bearings, hopefully it didn't cause a misalignment issue with the torque converter and screw up the pump or the main bushing. I just had an E4od built for my in laws truck and went through the headaches of three PCMs, rebuilding the cluster and such... If it's still shifting funny, maybe take it to a trans shop to have the rail pressure measured?

I'll have to ask my trans shop about measuring the rail pressure, thanks for the suggestion!
I feel your pain with the challenges on the electronic side of things with these transmissions. Definitely had me searching manual trans swap on this forum a few times!

My transmission shifted bad when cold and it was the filter....filter was clogged. Transmission shop claimed I needed a rebuilt but read online to change filter first and it saved me a lot of money

That is insane that a transmission shop would try to charge for a full rebuild when the issue was an old filter. This is why I have trust issues.

I remember reading on another forum where a retired ford transmission engineer claimed the filter has enough volume to hold all the clutch material in the transmission. So in theory, a blocked filter could indicate that enough material is lost, that the transmission is due for overhaul. I'm not saying it's true or that I believe it, but that was the theory.

More likely, it could simply have been a low quality filter that didn't have as much media as OEM (COUGH Fram COUGH), but it still begs the question of why it was blocked in the first place.

If it still works well, just run it.

They claimed it was impossible for a clogged filter to cause shifting issues
