I'm looking to use a powerstroke turbo on a project of mine and am curious to know the differences. The project isn't a powerstroke and it isn't a truck, so forget anything about those 2 items. I was originally going to use a gt3782 off a dt466, but the reverse rotation of a powerstroke turbo will actually work out better for me. The project has a t4 flange, so the turbo needs a t4 flange to match, which I believe would limit me to the 94-97.5 turbos.

Since I can't find one of those local and cheap to me. I've broadened my search to any of the 7.3 turbos, and am considering using a garrett quick spool .84 exhaust housing. https://cncfab.us/i-30497758-garrett-quick-spool-tp38-turbo-84-ar-housing-170299.html This isn't a high hp build, so the .84 housing would be more ideal then the 1.15 found stock on the 94.5-97, but I'm trying to figure out if that housing will bolt to the later non-t4 turbos used on powerstroke trucks after 97.5.

Will this housing fit turbos outside of the 94-97.5 years? I don't care about the truck interchange part of it, as I think after 97.5 they went to the round exhaust input over the T4 flange that was used prior. I need to know if the 94-97.5 housing will work with the later turbo cartridges and wheels.

Stock turbo for the powerstroke from 94-97.4 is a tp38 right? When did they upgrade to the gtp38? What about the gtp38r? Is the exhaust wheel and exhaust housing flange the same on those 3 models? Finding anything conclusive is proving difficult with the massive amount of info presented when googling tp38,gtp38, and gtp38r. And my info request to garrett on this has been unanswered.

Any of you guys got any info you'd like to share?

the e99 sd had a .84 exh with wg but they are not a t4. in fact none of the factory .84 housings were t4. the obs and e99 sd's are basically the same turbo except the exh housing. so the garrett 38r turned out not to be a good turbo by todays standards. i have no idea what stock turbos were gt or gtp but i do know the 38r wasn't stock. that exh housing you linked will work for obs and e99. my personal favorite is the e99 but they are rare. the surgeing fix for the late99 and up sd's was the stock comp wheel out of the e99 or even one out of the obs's. that was way back and there are much better solutions now a days.
