Last time I changed oil in the black truck had a similar stubborn filter. Broke two filter wrenches, finally ended up using a large 4" or 5" diameter exhaust clamp around the filter housing then used a long chisel and BFH to tap tap tap until it broke free. Half hour oil change ended up taking several hours. The filter was a motorcraft 1995 (typically used on powerstroke) and I've used them for years with no problems, this one for some reason stuck like **** to a wool blanket.

Yuh I won. Took 3 days to do the oil change. For when I had time and tool runs. Snapped an oil wrench which I returned and bought a pair of channel locks. Ended up using a saw zaw, heat gun, hammer, and channel locks to get it off. Probably spent a total of 8 hrs trying to get it off.

Guessing you did all the below and it was heat or chemicals that were the culprit of the seal not releasing. But for newer members who have not done many oil changes.

1) Clean the seal surface with a clean rag.
2) Put oil on the filter seal before screwing it on. (Or you may be in for a fight.)
3) Tighten the new filter as much as you can with one hand.(If your like the Hulk or Popeye stop when very tight.) Do not over tighten like its a big nut. You do not want to stretch, squeeze out, or damage the seal.
4) When possible use a quality filter wrenched for that diameter filter. Once you crush the filter in, it looses all its integrity. Personally I use the below pliers (I do not go past hand tight and change oil every 3k miles.). If the pliers did not work, or started to really crush the filter. I would grab higher up with a filter wrench.

Glad you got it off! Keep an eye out for oil cooler leaks, all that jarring could send some marginal o-rings and seals on the oil cooler system to the breaking point.

I’ve done a few things in the last couple weeks. Not done yet. I’m very thankful that I picked up my little Volkswagen because it’s given me so much time to do things I’ve always wanted to do to this truck. Fixed the firewall, went through all the janky cab wiring and weeded out a bunch of stuff that wasn’t even hooked up. About ready to install my traction bars. I also fixed the little blend door thingy that was preventing me from seeing when it was cold out.

On my way to work this morning with the crew cab, I was headed up a hill when it hit wide open throttle. At that point I knew air intrusion was the culprit and I'd be lucky to make it home later.
I went to start it around lunch time to run into town, and it wouldn't fire, just cranking.
I bled the lines, and all was good for a few hours of on and off driving. On the way home, it started revving up again then surging something terrible. It stalled out about 15 times in 8 miles. I was able to jam it in second gear to get it going most of the times. The best part was taking off from a stop sign in town, it redlined itself as I let the clutch out and smoked the tires on main street (lol).
I just barely got it home by redlining it to keep the rpms up.
Now I'll be redoing this fuel system I guess.(yay)

Time for an upgraded system.
Yup, I was kinda putting it off till spring before today, but now it's another project that I don't need now. Back in the 6.9 for now.
I'll be swapping in a 38 gallon tank and running it as a single tank, since I am sick of these dual tanks. And then of course an e pump and water separator like the 6.9.

I think it was sophomore year and my truck was still an automatic, I had the same air issues as you and it would rev all crazy. I was taking off in the rain and it just so happened I was crossing the paint on the street turning left and the truck decided it was going to rev up and pitch the back end out. I spun around in front of half of my teachers LOL
