Just bought this 1988 F250 2wd gas truck (blue one) and looking to swap the cab onto my 1989 f250 idi. Anything specific I should be aware of? Besides the VIN issues.

I would say as long as you have both vehicles to compare things and to scavage parts you should be ok.
I would have a set of body mounts on hand. Energy Suspension makes a polyurethane set that is available with and without hardware.

I did buy the Energy poly body mount kit with hardware started putting them in the idi and had to weld some plate steal to the floor pan. Good suggestion. Seems like it should be pretty straightforward...probably swap the dashes over to make it easier for things to plug in. I gotta cut a hole in the floor for the 4x4 lever tho. Other than that should be plug and play... I hope

address the firewall around the clutch area, prone to cracking.

delete the firewall to floor pinchweld for turbo downpipe reasons.

i also do a little fab to the cowl so that i can pull the 093 turbo in minutes.

No you don't. Ford was smart enough to use cover plates here. All that you have to do is to remove the one that you don't want ant replace it with the one that you do want. One word of caution: these are sealed down with something that will make you exercise your four letter word vocabulary. At least it did that for me.

I will second that it is a real fun removing the cover plates because of the sealer. When I swapped the zf5 in my 87 from the parts truck, both cover plates required quite a bit of patience...along with a hammer and chisel.

I've done several of these, my advice remove the entire cab (including front clip) from diesel truck first. Next remove all of the wiring + the dash, seats, & carpet from the gasser. Now remove empty cab shell from gasser and bolt on to the diesel frame. Swap everything from diesel to empty shell. When the shell is empty, its a perfect time to make rust repairs. Apply bedliner coating to both sides of the floor, install sound deadening materials, etc.

Welp...got the cab off. Going to work on the frame and replacing fuel tank sending units. Didn't realize how bad the floor pans were in the truck. Glad the gasser is rust free. Any thoughts on the throttle linkage? Will the gasser line up? I disconnected the throttle cable at the pump and left it with the cab

Pretty sure the throttle cable and pedal assembly is unique for the diesel.
