does anyone have the right tool to install the freeze plugs and would be willing to loan it to me? Have a friend whose engine needs new plugs.

A cheap seal driver set (like HF offers) or a socket the correct size is all I've used professionally for years.

Didn't even know there was an actual tool set for doing them until now. Another thing to buy, haha.

well, the plugs that are presently in the block have a dimple in the center,,,, so you just pound them in on the edges?

Try to line them up outside of the lip and tap them in straight. Had some too small or awkward for the seal driver and have used the back of a 1/2" drive impact socket and a dead blow to tap them in. Sometimes outside the lip, sometimes the socket will fit just flush inside.

No matter what, take the time to drive them in straight. After you pull the old ones and clean the mounting surface, they should go in without any heavy hitting.

Unfortunately Bill Oldbull8, passed away in 2018. He is surely missed.
Yes, I knew he passed away, a very knowledgeable guy,
from the threads he posted.
I was doing a search for the tool and came across the thread mostly for the info with the pictures of what it looks like etc...

Here is another one I came across and a drawing with the dimensions.

https://www.thedieselstop.com/threads/freeze-plugs.596977/#post-4293153

Doing a search, can`t find the tool available anywhere.
the tool number is 303-D045, think it is a Rotunda tool.
And expansion plugs are E3TZ6026A.

Lots of misinformation on how to install the plugs w/o the proper tool and correct plugs.

I have the design drawings of OldBull8's tool if anyone would like a copy.

I can't remember whether it can be posted here on the forum. It may use too much bandwidth. I'm out of town at the moment, but I'd be happy to send it to anyone who would like a copy.

Looking at the drawings I would say it will have to be made in a machine shop due to the one curved surface and the tolerances.
