Good idea. Might as well drop the driveshaft one time and do it all.

Yeah the old one felt a little stiff but the new one does too so it might have been just fine. The rubber was getting worn out though so regardless, it's done and I won't have to worry about it for a long time.

The driveshaft had been warm right next to the carrier bearing so I just assumed it was bad.

Advance (where I bought the Spicer lifetime u-joints) wanted $90 for the "National" carrier bearing! So I went to Napa and paid $45 for SKF LOL

Bolted everything together.

Put oversized washers in to space everything out so it'll still go together after it's welded up.

I'm going to run this strapping over it to add rigidity and make it look better.

Close enough for starters.

Of course the batteries died in my welding hood. Freaking 2021 can keep it, good riddance LOL

I couldn't decide, so a couple friends helped me choose. It looks odd just squared off like that, so I'm going to run the angle out to the edge instead.

Hi Chris! Obviously, I've not been around much, but I do lurk on occasion. I put Cooper AT3's on Raylan and I am very happy with them. Did you put the Firestone Transforce tires on another truck? The bumper looks great! Can't wait to see it finished...

Hi Rich!

Yes the Firestones were terrible in the snow! They've been on the back of Tank for a while now. I might have to replace them before too long as they're starting to dryrot.

Already? Wow! I remember buying them. Pulling our RV? I hit a invisible wicked dip somewhere in south Georgia and I managed severely flat spot both front tires from pogoing up and down while trying to get it slowed down and under control. I went to a Tires Plus in Jacksonville the the next day and got the four new Firestones. Then the right rear got popped when the old lady hit me in Woodbourn NY. Do you remember if I replaced it with a matching tire? Or did I just get whatever?

You just put the spare on I think. If memory serves I believe I replaced the damaged one but I could be mistaken.

They're not terrible yet, but there's Lots of cracking. I'm not worried about them, but having one mismatched and them on the rear of the dually is less than ideal. I'm probably going to swap the two best ones on the front for a while and buy a new pair for the rear.

I'll have to check the date code now that you say that. Truck is at my friend's house now.

Got some batteries today. I didn't get the bends squared up perfect but I think it'll be close enough for me.

I'm piecing it together because this is scrap and there's a hole cut out in the middle of these pieces. I figured it's easier to piece it together than try to weld the hole up.

A little more sketchy bending. Just needed a little tweak.

Here's where I'm stopping for the night. I'm really hoping everything is tacked in enough to not move so I can finish a few of the welds on the bench. I might tack a bar on the bottom just for good measure but I'm not certain yet.

Ran out of wire yesterday. Finished up the welds today and put it on.

Tabs inside and out for the filler plates. Angled the bottom edge of the uprights to match the sides.

Still have to cut the filler plates to fit and I'll eventually add some headlight protection too. Some of the welds are ugly, but I can always fix that later after I get more practice.
