I got my boost guage installed today. It is all installed 100% correct, no bends, kinks, cracks, etc. I am getting right at 10PSI max boost at full throttle off the banks sidewinder. But i never show any vacuum. Is that normal? Boost starts to build at about 1200 and maxs out right at 2000 and holds solid at 10psi to rev limiter. Also, if i adjust the waste gate, is 12 PSI safe for these older cast engines?

Yes thats normal. A diesel will never have vacuum on the intake because of not having a throttle.

Not being smart, but that’s why you have a belt driven vacuum pump.

Yes. 12 PSI will be fine on your engine. In fact, that's where I usually saw the max boost for a 2nd gen Sidewinder.

glad to hear that, so I can just thread in the arm on the waste gate and once I get to 12lbs I should be fine right? I will wait until the EGT guage is installed to pump up the fuel anymore, I already have it up 2 flats.

I am completely new to the IDI world and have very limited knowlege of diesel engines to begin with so I am learning as I go. so nothing you say will come off as smart @ss to me. its all new information as I have always built gas engines, so the basic principals are there but I lack the details.

Google how to adjust the waste gate. If you do it wrong you can tear the diaphragm and ruin the actuator
