Since you can only buy SIX at a time from AMZN, I used two accounts. Out of the 12 plugs ordered in total only ONE is a spade. Since I now have 11 ZD9's, I would just change the harness and controller to the 87-92 version - but the labeling makes me think none of these are actual Motorcraft parts, that they're actually really good fakes.

Photo is enclosed - note the square boxes have the exact same part numbers. Sealed, original looking bags. The ovals - show the difference in the actual parts. It will take two hours to return these, and I have to go find another set.

So - I'm ONE for 12.

As much as I dislike the dealerships, maybe this is one area where it pays to buy from them? I'm not sure if dealers can get faked out too but this is prevalent on Amazon, though it seems the average Joe doesn't know that.

I know there are other sites that sell only Ford parts, maybe they have in-house supply chains that won't be knock-offs. There have been a lot of members here dissatisfied with their Beru/Motorcraft glow plugs lately and I'm thinking it's mostly knock-offs. No way for me to prove that, though.

Exactly what I did, though from past experiences they are always my third choice. RockAuto is better now, in the early years you paid shipping from each source location - but they didn't tell you much about that... so I received a $200 shipping bill for 10 parts worth $20. As I said - better now.

Great info on the Fakes - thank you. Also interesting - it was Amazon Proper which sourced the parts - not an Amazon third party. I went through the pain of talking to a person, so someone else doesn't get these... one can hope.

O'Reilly also sells Motorcraft glow plugs, if you want to go retail but not dealer.

I would say those are for sure fakes. Just another reason to avoid scamazon.

Amazon is my last resort for buying anything anymore. Bought two fenders for my 98 ranger last year and they both showed up loose in a box beat to hell. I requested replacements and same thing. Packed loose in the box and damaged. They sent me a total of 6 sets of fenders and they were all damaged. I tried to tell them they needed to be packed better but that didn't seem to get through to them. They ended up refunding my money. I tried to leave honest feedback about the experience and they blocked it. I didn't swear or use any foul language or name call or anything just said that they are not packing them correctly. Nope goes against their terms to leave anything thats not positive feedback.

I dont think those are fakes, just mispackaged somehow??
Given all the other examples online, and the markings - I'm leaning fakes.
Doesn't matter. These are zero doubt ZD9's in very specific un-opened and factory looking Motorcraft ZD-1A packaging. Not one - but 11 of 12.

I've seen what happens with the cheap ones - I was lucky to get the damned things out.

Those are zd9s, I agree with that. What markings are you seeing that make you think they are fakes?

Packaging. One problem, no issues - things happen. 11 of 12 - nope. Could an entire manufacturing run be that way - certainly - but that kind of thing would get caught by the retailers. Also, the notes from other forums on verified fakes had clues which are evident. Aside from my photo, I'm not in possession of them any longer.

I use to work there, not in the auto department but a different department and probably 75% of everything that came through department was fakes....it was so bad they finally started to develop a counterfeit department but last I heard it was still in the works....so basically I never use Amazon for any auto parts or anything else important as you can typically get better deals straight from manufacturer or in this case advanced auto parts online 20% coupon

I still dont see anything that would lead me to believe they are fakes......and you give retailers WAAAAAAAY to much credit if you think they would catch that mistake.

I take interest in this because I replace between 10-15 sets of these a year, have a close to a hundred of them on hand, and want to learn of any ways to spot counterfeit stuff..........I dont by any auto parts from amazon though.

Are there small holes punched in the bottom corners of the bags?

I have posted this one before. It is from FordTechMakuloco, who I think is a member on here, or over next door at SDD. This is a video he has showing a bad fake, a good fake, and the real thing. They are 5.4 coils and plugs…. But pay attention to the bag information he shows….

Also, look at the markings on the plug itself. Do they say BERU on them, or is there another name on them?
