Holy cow! That was just a kiss? I'd hate to see what happened if she got real frisky with your truck.
Apparently our cows are passionate?:***: lucky bulls I guess.
Full story time now that the semis parked. So it was the day before we shipped calves. Barely before dark and we had one more group of cows to go through and sort some calves back. My wife was dragging my uncooperative horse and my brother was messing around doing stuff that was supposed to be done later. So I was pushing cows up with the truck. By myself. Because we wanted to keep the kids close and because it was almost dark and because frankly I was kinda stupid. All hot up under the collar to get done and stuff. Well it was going good and then two wrestling cows happened along and the loser got shoved in front of the truck just quick enough I couldn't react at 20ish mph. After I pried said hood apart with shovel much swearing and fist shaking ensued. Ironically that truck is destined for a full grill guard move bumper and they where on sale!
:Whatever: bumper will be cheaper than decent new radiator

My cousin chases cow’s with his truck at 15mph and the cow 3’ off his bumper. I always think if the cow trips, his truck is screwed. I also figure if the cow kicks back his grill is toast. So far it has yet to happen. Now his ATV and side by side work better, the cows basically run from them. His brother-in-law once said, if it was not for ATVs, he would not have cattle. (He also farms 2,000 acres.)

I was using a Kubota rtv to herd cattle until the front differential went out. It really sucks on foot by yourself. I have used my 87 when necessary, but I prefer not to without a big grill guard.
It's kinda of a toss up.....
Do I want to get cow kicked, or sit by and watch it happen to my pickup or a farm vehicle, lol.
Running around fields on a tractor in road gear chasing cows gets interesting real fast anyhow!
Quads are really nice for that though. I miss my kodiak 400

Rock, close to 10 years back a neighbor of mine called me on a Saturday morning asking if I had an ATV that was ready to ride. He works for the biggest farming outfit around and some of their cows right next to town were out. I told him that I only had my 1997 KX250 ready at that time. He told me that he'd see if he could get them without me. I decided to get the bike out of the garage and ready just in case he called. After it was ready, I decided to just ride out to where they were out and see how things were going. As I got close, I saw him on his tractor trying to drive them through the wheat stubble field next to the pasture where they were supposed to be. His wife and their two youngest daughters were on foot trying to help (all she had was a 4X2 Colorado). I just rode through the ditch and joined in. We had gotten about 3/4" of rain the night before and the dirt was PERFECT. Just wet enough on to to really aid in sliding around, but still dry enough to give me all the traction that I wanted. I got the cows out of the wheat field and back inside the fence. I helped them fix the fence at the corner where it ws down and broken. Then I rode around the outside of the fence to see if I could find any more spots where it was down or broken. I found three more cows with calves hiding in some trees about 1/2 mile or so from where the wires had been broken. They weren't too happy about being driven back at a trot, but they REALLY didn't like the sound of my two stroke either. Only one was stubborn. She kept trying to lay down on the side of a hill a couple hundred yards from the gate. I got the rest of them back to the gate and then took off back to the stubborn one at top speed (just for my entertainment). It took me several close passes (jumping at the top of the hill of course) to get her up and moving again. Once up the hill, she decided that she did want to go back through the gate after all. That was the most fun that I've ever had chasing cows.

Momma cows with calves, imo are always the worst to herd. Especially when they can't see the gate!
This i bringing back memories of chasing the soon to be family dairy cow. She was an 800lb jersey so not huge. She busted through a gate and ran a mile and a half down the road. When I got there, my dad was trying to rope her, and he did catch her, but there was a flaw in the plan..........
The cow weighed a bit more than Pops..
He never let go of the rope, but I ain't kidding when I say he got dragged a good 200 yards and caught same air too.
After about 4 hours of this, she happened to run all the way back to the barn and let herself in.
Not every problem is a heifer.....but every heifer is a problem!
I do really enjoy herding cattle when they are in a perimeter fence and I am not worried about them running down the road. It does get old when they get out and are in the middle of the road.
The bulls don't bother looking for gates, they just make them.

Ive chased cows in nearly every possible vehicle over the years and my conclusion is that a horse is the best all around mount, your truck is for hauling the horse and if I had to pick between bringing my good horse or my good dog(s) im putting on my hiking shoes. I do enjoy a good atv chase tho too. Most cows take a Honda horse very seriously. Problem I've seen is a determined cow will out turn any mechanical mount except a skidster. She'll out run that lol.

I am always impressed with how fast a 1500 pound animal can get away from a quad. My entire family uses horses, I’m the one who never really road. So I’m always on a 4 wheeler.

Laine, hence the MX bike in my previous story. It's smaller and more maneuverable than an ATV. It would get knocked over pretty easily, but you just don't let them get very close. I did use it to try to catch a jack rabbit one time too. I didn't quite catch it, but let's just say that Bugs may have had a few less hairs on his tail. I had also never seen or heard of a jack rabbit diving into it's hole at a full run while going perpendicular to the direction of the tunnel. It couldn't out accelerate me, and it could barely out turn me.

I actually used to have an 88 kx 125 and I got rid of it a couple years ago. I really wish I kept it as I would’ve had better luck chasing cattle… smells better than horse **** too LOL

Been a long day...just pulled in with the truck, and been on the road since 6am.
So.... I spent 4 hours in the VA DMV to get temp tags, and once again they gave me the wrong info over the phone, so I ended up having to register the truck in VA, but will have to register it again in PA:rtfm:frustrate.
It was a good trip, truck did fantastic and not one problem.
There's some things to fix eventually, but overall, it's a really good truck. Plan is to keep it simple, and spruce it up down the road.
