Wife got this for my birthday. I’ve been getting around it by welding bolts and nuts to stubborn stuff but happy to have it now.

Ambo motor is dead from the cracked #2, you might have watched my last video. Promar said they would take it as a core if I put it back to long block. Which I did. It will be a future core for an IDIT.

I then started my NA junkyard performance build. I got this engine for free in a negotiation for a number of other parts I bought and paid for from a truck.
First step was to put it on the engine run stand, put a new SMF on, and compression test it to make sure it’s a good candidate. Compression test went very well.

Actually, yes I am. I get so disgusted every time that I go into Home Depot that I'd rather drive the extra 30 minutes or so to Menards. Their prices aren't usually any better than what I can find locally. The only advantage that I can see that they have over local is buying in bulk.
That and one stop shopping. FYI we don’t have Menards, the other guy is Lowe’s around SoCal.

Personally I have always loved the Depot. I started going 30 years ago in San Diego when remodeling a home. It was so much faster than trips to Ace Hardware for this, and Dixiline lumber for that, and Pauls Electric for that, and the plumbing supply for this. Mis the Home Expo, they had some really great stuff there.

Although I have a lot of Snap On tools from my single days I have a lot of Husky tools now.(Craftsman too, but no Sears stores now.) I don’t think I have even broken one yet. Just can’t handle the fact folks want 80% of what they paid for new, on worn out Snap-On hand tools. (At that price would rather buy it new but the Snap On guy does not ever knock on my door.) So rather have lots of good tools by Husky than a few really good Snap On tools. I often find Husky tools on clearance so that becomes a good tool at a great price. I don’t have issues with stripping bolts or nuts with their hand tools and sockets. The hand tools are lifetime warranty, just have not needed the warranty yet.

Also Home Depot makes returns very easy in my opinion. (I am sure that opinion results varies amongst this membership.) So I appreciate buying something and if it is not right, does not work, dies, or 90 days later I forgot to return it. Knowing it will be a no hassle experience to return it.

But I have been to Menards a few times, it’s a great store.

I spent a few hours yesterday and today working on odds and ends for my engine rebuild project. I probably should start a thread for that. My block is currently at the machine shop, so I cleaned and painted a few pieces, put a speedy sleeve on the balancer, and replaced the inner shift boot on the ZF5. Oh, and early last week I picked up my custom clutch.

Resurfaced the flywheel, new 13” disc and pressure plate, new pilot bushing and throw out bearing, even new bolts for the pressure plate. $260 plus tax. Sometimes it really pays to shop local and not be in a hurry.

Menards is cool, but we don have them around here.

Ace and True Value are ok sometimes, but usually overpriced, and I leave empty handed half the time

I hate Lowe’s, not sure why but it’s a last resort.

Home Depot is my go-to.

I picked up another project today. It's way down at the bottom of the list, so it's just going in the barn for now, but it'll be a cool little project whenever I get around to it. Couldn't turn it down for the price.

I paid $100 for it. It's literally going to be a spare parts build, think gambler 500 meets mad max.
hey, my neighbor has about 30 of those broken down to pieces in his barn and about 10 full ones outside if you are looking for parts.

Seriously? That's awesome! I'll get ahold of you at some point. Definitely going to need a couple fenders, probably a few other odds and ends too.

It was 67* when I went to lunch so I turned the thermostat down so the furnace wouldn't kick on and opened a couple of windows. After work, it was 69* (probably over 70* before the high, thin clouds rolled in). Since I was going to drive over to the county seat to pay a couple of bills and finally remember to buy some new laces for my work boots, I decided to make the drive with the driver's window down. That was pretty nice and unusual for this time of year. On the way back home, the sun had just set so I had the window about half way back up. I still enjoyed that too. All that probably won't happen again until next March or April.

it has the short wide radiator and im discovering all the local shops quit rebuilding rads. My parts truck is not a short wide. Anybody swapped in a tall skinny radiator and has advice on it?

Bummer, hopefully you look and feel better than the truck, and no one was hurt. I hate it when people back into me!;) Bet the car that kissed your truck did not do as well.

Folks seem to like the Mishimoto’s, generally a better build quality. But I was able to recore so will let others weigh in on their experience with aftermarket aluminum ones.

Changed my starter.

Those newfangled gear reduction starters sure make a difference.

Next job, when I have the time for it, is to figure out which cylinder is slacking off and not doing it's job. (I'm betting it's the rear most on the passenger side.)

I've noticed for a while now, that the engine runs like it is out of balance. That is just getting worse. As is what sounds like piston slap, or maybe a rod knock.

When I get the chance again, I'll crack the injectors with it running, and find out which one doesn't make a difference. Then I'll do another compression check. And we'll see what I have to do from there...
