Have become the owner of this 86 f350 6.9idi cab and chassis which has a flat bed . The last insurance card i could find was in2008. It has been sitting. Does have dual tanks of which the rear tank has never been hooked up. Grand parents owned the truck new. Has 28800 ish miles. Has any one ever had to bring back the dead. This has become a major task. Looking for a shop that can do the injector pump hoping some have had good or bad results in rebuilders.

Is it a manual trans? If so, pulling it to start it would be better than over working the starter. I had one sit for 11 yrs and pull started it in a half mile.

4 spd man trans. Found that the truck has been mostly dead for more than 15 years. Pulled IP and injectors. Found USO in fuel, unidentified sinking objects in the fuel when removed the side cover on the pump.

If it were me, I’d pull all the glow plugs, put some marvel mystery oil, WD40, or some other penetrating oil in all the cylinders and let it sit for a couple of days. After that I would bar the engine over by hand, then crank the engine with the starter and flush all the penetrating oil out as best as I could. Then I’d do a compression test.

It sounds tedious, but you’ve got some unquestionable fuel system work to do, and I’d want to verify the engine didn’t get damaged from sitting or maybe even water before I put what’s most likely going to be an injector pump and injectors into your engine.

Just my .02 worth. Good luck whatever path you choose, sounds like a neat old low mileage project.

A few months ago I had the truck running and it sounded good but the longer it ran the worse it got . Later found the pump had junk in it along with the injectors. I am wondering about the fuel pump I installed . Read about installing a fuel pump incorrect . IP and injectors are back in and started to purge air out of system. My question is how much fuel will come out of the lines during cranking. Following the instructions that Mel posted as opening the fuel solenoid on the pump, glow plugs off key off, and crank with jumper wire to solenoid on fender and pump throttle open. Did get fuel as I had to change gears when granddaughter was calling. And on the other side there may still be a lot of air in the system.
