Napa Gold filter is what I am running and will probably continue to run. As I like Napa products compared to others. But I will try any recommendations if someone has had better luck with other brands. Power is great so I plan on leaving everything stock and original just for nostalgia. I guess I’m a sucker for old original American vehicles that are made with pride.

WIX makes the Napa filters just add another 3 onto the front of the part number from napa and it comes back as wix.

The upgrade I would consider is the turbo down pipe. Helps power and egt.

Yeah I have been looking into the exhaust system. I think I am going to upgrade that down pipe when I have to redo the exhaust system due to age. So one above I believe said that Ford restricted it so it wouldn’t out preform other models.

My truck does have 4.10 gears and it makes the RPM’s run hight. The pulling power is nice but the fuel mileage kind of suffers at higher speeds. I have mixed feelings about it. I don’t think 3.73 gears will make that much of a difference. I really don’t care about speed that much.

That could be but I think it was more of a fitment issue. When you get under there and look you’ll see why. Just not much room between motor and body pinch weld.

When I had my idi, I put the powerstroke exhaust on it, it’s a little larger. It did help it breath better. Using that logic, when I redid my powerstroke exhaust I went to 5”. It breaths pretty well.

I have to disagree with the "strictly for fitment" idea. In my opinion, there's just too much evidence that the Turbo engine was originally designed for much higher power levels than it came with from a dealership. The down pipe is one. Another is the anodized pistons with larger wrist pins. One more is that fact that the Factory Turbo itself came with a 2 1/2" exhaust elbow while the ATS 093 (which the Factory Turbo was based on) came with a 3" exhaust elbow plus a larger, not-smashed down pipe. The IP is more adjustable than one from a N/A engine (I believe ie. torque screw). I know that there's more example than these few, but my thinking is that all of this seems to be a waste of time and money for an engine that was rated at about 10-15 more HP than the N/A 7.3 was. If that's what it was designed for, than why all of the upgraded parts?

I wouldn’t rule out fitment. You have one assembly line that runs all models if you mash a downpipe so it fits. If not you have to build a separate assembly line for a small percentage of overall sales. I do agree they overbuilt the engine for the power it came from the factory with. But if it’s derated you have less warranty issues than if it’s built to its upper limits. Fortunately everyone has opinions. My 93 na had a torque screw adjustment from the factory.

Nice. Must be E4OD if it's getting 17. I get about 14-15 hwy in my 87 F250 C6. The A/T tires make it get worse than it got when it had balding A/S.
i believe the top gear is direct drive for both e4od and c6
oops i was thinking of the t-19 trans
