Well the rains finally arrived after about 4 months of dry. Now the ground is wet enough to work on as I await the arrival of the engine coming from Promar, which was sent out on the 1st of Sept, some 17 days ago. I took a trip to the freight depot, and it is in town. Just in a trailer waiting to be offloaded. Hopefully, God willing, I get the engine on Monday when the rains are gone again for awhile. Then the fun begins, again. Yes, no job is complete without bleeding or lying in the mud. I have already cut myself working on whatever and now the mud factor can be completed.

Who would want a warm dry building or a two post vehicle lift? It's all about the adventure!

The older I get, the more I dred working on the floor. Much less the dirt/mud floor! You are a better man than I!

Good luck, send some pics for the group as you go!

Well, the dry floor and a shop was desirable when the engine was delivered to the freight depot by the new UPS called T-Farce. excuse me "T-Force". I had to say Farce because it showed up in a broken crate and upside down. I would have sent it back but am out of time getting this done outside before the weather really turns.
I am, in the back of my mind, considering selling off the place and getting something perhaps better suited to my needs and desires. Then again, no neighbors on 4 sides is a hard thing to leave behind.
Today's venture is fixing the valve cover that started all this round of malarkey.
A shop should be of a sufficient size to have both the 2 post lift at about a 10 or 12K rating and the 4 post lift. Not to mention enough storage area for various vehicles and even a basement or second level.
Then add the kitchen and bath. The bath being built with stainless steel floors and walls for easier cleaning. One hot water hose and it's pretty much done.

Perhaps with no neighbors you can put in a steel building or large garage?

Yes we all should be so lucky to have a auto shop behind our home or down the street Like you describe above.

My buddy used part of his business warehouse as an auto shop for his race cars. So been spoiled as he lets me use it too. He is retiring to Florida next month so need to start looking for a cheap 2,000 sf warehouse. Challenge around here is many advertise no automotive.

County zoning is a pita. However if the pockets are deep enough it can be done. I like the ol' boy who ran for county commissioner, got elected, built his house and quit.
More than one way to get things done.

Out here in the boonies of Nevada, you can have 2 sea containers on 5 acres. But a $400 permit to have permission from the County. Then they want them to be painted a tan color not to offend any one, and if they are, ya gotta build a fence around them.
If you bring them in w/o a permit, they fine you double the $400.
Don`t want to up set all these hoity toity Commiefornians moving in building their monster mansions.

I am in the sticks outside of Portland, Ore. a rare chunk of real estate that the wife's folks picked up in the late 60's. 21 miles from the center of down town Portland. Weyerhauser on two sides and BLM (Federal land) on the other two sides. The BLM land is also a water shed area and the county won't let any construction in there. Basically two non existent neighbors all growing trees. County zoning does not exist and all the permitting is through the city.
They have no concept of rural and apply the same rules all around.
If the pockets were deeper, I would do as I liked and figure it out later.
Currently stuck and dealing with it as I go along.
One of these day's this will be up for sale.
All I need then is two people trying to prove something.
Have a bidding good time guys.

I took a trip to Bi-Mart yesterday and picked up the 12X26 Shelterlogic tent with the side kit.
The quick-shade tents will be taken down as this project will be a long term run.
Thurs brings light showers again and then dry and 80 for at least Saturday, maybe.
35 years? Oh! Youngster. Keep going kid. You know by now that the weather guessers cannot currently predict more than about two days in advance. Soon enough it will get down to 8 hours in advance.
Tis' the season. I have a few Doug Fir trees that don't mind the rain at all. On the other hand I still need this done and the sooner the better.
I am living in tent city for outdoor structures. Cleaning snow off them in a few more short months is going to be fun once again. I am also getting to the stage where they all need to go. Everything inside needs consolidation and elimination.
Next big truck project will be the hidden hitch.

Funny you mention that. This week is organization week for me. Getting rid of stuff i dont have space for. Say if anyone needs anything for a great price let me know lol. I cant believe i have gotten as far as i have with everything so cluttered. i cant go anywhere without have to step over a ton of stuff to get there. looking for tools takes forever. Its madness.

I believe I have 3, 4? recip saws now. Yeah, clutter can be entertaining. A ton of things to get rid of.
I did manage to sell off about 14 tons of it a few months ago. Two non-running Cat Twenty-Two machines. 1937 vintage. One crawler and the other with a winch and front blade.
I figure that got rid of about 1/3 of it so far.
Rains have tapered off for the day, maybe.
Now time to get going on the engine again if i was smart.
