I'm trying to swap an 1991 e350 Engine and tranny into a 1994 IDI turbo f-350.
They sit in the truck but my shift cable from the 94 won't match the shifter on 91 transmission.
Is there an adapter? Mod?
I've failed four different mods... and I still have the 1994 Tranny, but hate having to pull the tranny to swap (alone).
Just a side note... you can install engine and tranny at once... load leveler helps.

They should both be E4od, do you have a picture of what your problem is? Your shifter cable should attach to the lever by the range selector switch on the drivers side. When you look up range selector for 91 e350 and 94 f350 it is the same part.

1994 is cable to arm/shifter on transmission... while 1991 has a rod that connects to a shorter shift cable (i think)
Has anyone been able to create a fix/mod to use 91 tranny with 94 cable?

Do you have the 94 e4od? If so you can change shift levers.

Irony: Getting the engine in with tranny only to remove said tranny.
I was hoping for something easier. Looks like I'll just swap back original tranny. Might actually take less time than dropping pans and switching two levers (plus the margin for error).
Thanks, Gnathv.
Peace to all on forum and (a thousand different) thanks for all the help and resource here.

The lever swap is simple. Way easier than swapping transmissions.

Watch the video again, after you get the pan off it’s a 15 minute job.

Okay, fellas... I'm gonna try the lever switch dropping the pans this weekend. I HATE having to lie on my back and wrestle the tranny out and back in. That's why i installed it connected to engine.

I haven't actually swapped any of the shift shafts, I have pulled them out and flipped them around 180* before. I did this in an AOD and an E4OD behind a gas engine. It wasn't difficult at all. Now the FMX in my Red Truck is a different story. Before I installed it in the truck, I had it sitting upside down to do the shaft flip to. After I pulled off the pan and the valve body, the nut that holds the shaft in was still buried way down inside the case. I just put it back together and installed the transmission. Then I modified the shift linkage that runs from the frame over to the transmission.

IDIBronco, your story is what worries me. If i open it, I may mess/drop/lose my way. I'll try to follow the video, seems detailed enough. But... we know easy things often complicate themselves.

Take pictures first if you’re worried about reassembly. Remove the shift lever from the 94 that’s not in the truck first. You’ll be familiar with what your looking for under the truck in the 91. It really is as simple as it looks. If you opt to change transmissions instead you have to deal with unbolting converter from flex plate and insuring convertor is fully seated in front pump, much more challenging than changing shift lever. Take a deep breath and do it.
