Driveshaft support bearing

I need to replace mine. How do I pull the slip yoke apart? Mine is not like the videos. Mine has a rubber boot with the grease zerk sticking out

It has to be pressed out, if I'm not mistaken.

I paid a shop to do the one on my F250 when it went bad.

You're going to need a press to put the new one on too. Honestly the best way to do it if you can is to buy the parts, disassemble everything and pay a shop to just press the old one off and new one on. That'll save a bunch of time and money that way.

The slip yoke slips off. The rubber is hard after all these years and a pain. I recently swiped one of those smaller 1330 yokes for my rig(not realizing it was smaller) and it still fit just fine. Had to get a hybrid ujoint.

As for the bearing, they can be pressed off or cut off. Gotta take your time if you cut it off and don't hit the shaft.

To put it back on you heat the bearing up in an oven to 300* and slide it on, then take a long screwdriver or official drift and tap the inner race in 3 points over and over until it bottoms out. That's how I did my last one and really liked that method.

OR pay a shop $80 to do it for you. That's how much my first one cost me 11 years ago. If you want speed and ease do this.

The biggest issue is to find out why your bearing failed, almost always because the slip yoke is seized up or very stiff. This is key. I had to replace mine 3 times before I finally got a yoke like yours and it slides really nicely for the few inches it needs.

When I did mine I cut the old off with a grinder then heated the carrier bearing to 300*f in the parts heater / toaster oven / breakfast maker then used like 2 or 3 cans of dustoff sprayed upside down to cool the drive shaft I think it took 2 small wacks with the hammer to get it fully seated. I think its maby a 2 beer job if you have a buddy distracting you

It cost me about $300 including the new carrier bearing to have a shop do the whole job in late 2017. They had it done in a few hours.

That price was for just the shaft and bearing being given to the shop for them to press-off and then press-on the bearing, which is what I did the first time and what @chillman88 mentioned.

$300 doesn't surprise me for the whole job.

I used a cutoff wheel to remove mine. Outer race and cage are obvious. I very carefully scored across the inner race and smacked it kind of tangentially and it opened up the race enough to get it off. I used a piece of 1.5” pvc pipe to drive the new one on. I used some tape to hold the pipe on and picked up and dropped the driveshaft on it from a few inches above the floor a few times. That’s easier to do than it is to explain.

I do grease the driveline every 3000 miles. The slip seems to move fine. The bearing is just worn out after 34 years and who knows how many miles.
