Hello folks,

I am requesting help on a problem.
1997 7.3 powerstroke E350 4*4.. always immediate starter.

I had an accident on black ice and the bus rammed into a bank ,tipped over and flipped around in the opposite direction.
Speed was about 40 mph.
After I got to my senses and starting getting my dog free .(Her rear leg was pinched thru the door under the bus)
I turned the engine key of although I think the engine had shut down already.

A lot of motor oil leaked out thru the passenger valve cover vent.

The bus was set back on its wheels and towed to the towing shop.
They told me that it fired up after a 5 second start and seemed to run ok.

Filled up oil.

Now everytime it needs a 5 second start before it fires
When it starts and shut down for 5 seconds it fires immediately.. if you wait 5 minutes then it takes 5 seconds again.

The first time I thought that the oil had drained out of the hpop reservoir.

Does any body have suggestions?

Thank you,
Johan

How many miles since the accident? Could have some air in the HPOP system from the tip over.

Zero miles. Happened two days ago. Before tip over started first crank now it takes 5 -6 seconds . When it fires it runs smooth. I have not driven it because the steering link is bend. Last night I straightened it so I can try to see how the engine runs under power.

No. The towing company set the bus straight up and towed it to their lot.. they unfortunately started it without me being there and said it ran and was not hydrolocked...
The bus was on its side for an hour.. about 2 gallon oil leaked out. Not sure from where.. seems the passenger valve cover.. the dipstick tube is somewhere damaged.. because it is hard to get the dipstick back in.

I drove it around for 5 minutes and it sound fine. The slow start is still the same. The turbo seems to be very oily. Not sure how that is possible unless there was oil standing in the valley.. this car had no oil consumption before ..so I do not know how many things get messed up in the engine from a low speed flip on the side.

Trying to straighten the body

Just wanted to follow up. After the new windshield was installed I drove the bus for 15 min back home. Cold start was about 12 sec. Did not want to pull hard and was very sluggish ..my wife drove behind me and said it was smoking.. after 10 min warm up I decided to go for the italians tune up. So a couple of 3000 rpm full throttle acceleration later. The smoke was gone .
It was likely indeed air in the hpop.

Tried a "cold" start several hours later and she fired after 3 seconds.. so going in the right direction.

Thank you all for the help. I will follow up as soon as this bus is driving everyday again.
