So using 8x6.5" bolt pattern as a search pattern I'm getting a lot of OEM Dodge/Chevy 17" wheel hits for cheap. And I'm down with that.

Here's set I have my eye on for an example:
https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/wto/d/mcchord-afb-r17/7258664551.html

What I need is a second set of wheels. I have 2 spares already so technically I only need 2 more, buuuuuuut, I've been running 33" tires for about a year and they suck. To keep tread wear even close to square they have to be run at such low PSI that they are SUPER squishy. These are cheap ebay M/T's so I know that has some to do with it. But still, a wider taller tire will have tire wear issues at the same PSI as an OEM size, it's just physics.

I'm thinking the 17" rim would help alleviate that some, any thoughts?

After all these years I finally know why every M/T tire for sale is worn out in the center and 1/2" deep on the shoulders, you have to run way too much PSI to get them to handle normally.

Thanks everyone!

I know chevy oem wheels will be lug centric and ford is hub centric, dont remeber on dodge. So with the chevy wheels you will have issue of the center bore too small to fit on hub but could be solved, you would have to take something like a carbide burr to open it up.

Sounds like it's not as easy as I was hoping...

I went with 285/75r-16, looks like 255 80 17 would be a little taller even but skinnier too which is good. Unfortunately they are all crazy priced! I know tires are expensive but jeepers, I'm with you. Too much.

I'm running the Kuhmo Crugen 235 85 16's. They ride real nice and not that expensive. They have good reviews too. Aren't those wide tall tires noisy?

When I was working at the Good Year store back in '06/'07, I noticed that about the 17" tires. They seem to be unusually high priced. Kind of like the 16.5" tires. I'm plenty happy with my 16" tires even if they're not "cool" anymore.

I'd say most M/T's are noisy, but with all the wind and engine noise my tires can just barely be heard. And only at around 35-45 mph, but you'd have to be listening for it.
Maybe it's cause they are "small" for mud tires at 33" or that they are softer than the super common Toyos and Open Country from Les Schwab. My neighbor has had both and especially the Toyos are really hard and loud.(he gets get 60k out of those hard tires too)

But anywho I like the 33" look on these rigs and if I can find a way to get less squishy handling out of them I'll stick with that size. I'd much rather them be narrower and hold more pressure. But at the same time big, wide tires give you more life for your dollar since they wear slower. I'm sure it about breaks even vs the smaller, less pricey tires though.

P.S. your tires are highway tires, they better ride smooth! Ultimately I'm going to run a modern 5-rib all terrain. I went with M/Ts to try them, and have them as my backup set for snow play or if I ever get to play on the trails. Not much time for that these days but I can dream! :D

Dodge wheels come 8" wide from about '00 onward. 16" alum or 17" alum or steel.

Offset doesn't work for an 8x6.5" Ford. If you put on spacers to make them 'right', I don't think you need to bore the wheels.

FWIW, I run ford 16x7 wheels on my older dodges with tires up to 285/75R16. No odd wear.

They must have changed that at some point. A buddy of mine was running Dodge 17" aluminum wheels on his 92 F250 welding truck. Only opened up the center bore. I couldn't tell you what size tires he was running though.

Didn't change. Must have got lucky... and didn't mind the tires tucked waaay in. Did the front tires rub?

A 2" spacer negates the 6-6.5" backspacing nicely. Then the dodge wheels would fit unmodified.

I don't recall them rubbing, but I only rode in it a couple times. Didn't look like they were tucked in too much. I'll have to ask if he has a picture of it because now you've got me second guessing my memory!

I run 265/70/17 BFG Ko2s front and back on some dodge wheels , common size for duallys
had to open the center hole up or add 10 mm spacers in the front to get them to fit , I’m also 2wd , didn’t have to do anything for the rear wheels to fit
not a fan of the offset but they work
