Slow crank no start ...

...persists after installing new batteries, starter relay and starter. Please help. 1987 Ford 6.9 idi, 48000 original miles.

Like @Cubey said, could be the cables. Sometimes they fail under the insulation where you can't see, so you may have to peel the insulation off to see if they are corroded badly.First check all the terminal ends and if they are original, you will probably have to cut them off and crimp and solder new ones on.

This cable was on a Dodge 360 and it's amazing how long it worked in this condition. It took a cold day before it couldn't start the engine anymore. The bare end is because it had a repair terminal on it too. I replaced both cables at the same time since both had the repair terminals and I didn't want to have to go back and replace the positive later.

What starter did you use? It's possible that you got a bad rebuild. That's just something else to think about if your cables and ground connections on the engine all check out. It doesn't seem like your truck should need a new starter at only 48,000 miles. It may have seen a lot of short drives though. That could have wore out the original starter.
