Just curious here, but what are the differences? Detergents, dino vs synth? Would Type-F ATF be closer to the older stuff?
IIRC, type F is to reduce slippage in the clutch packs, so it is a a friction enhancer, which is even worse, but you will find that basically all modern atf variations have friction modifiers that will cause harm to the IP over time. I believe that type F is also very, very high in sulfur, which is acid that will corrode metal.

I often see auctions from old mechanic shops... with body panels, engine parts, tools, etc. I'll have to look closer and see if any have old trans fluid still in the can.

16oz. per tank, so a quart split between both tanks. Any cheap 2 cycle works great.I try and buy it by the gallon so I am not always running out of it,plus it is cheaper that way. I do this in all my diesel engines, since they are older then 2000.

Hi Rock-
I have an '02 F-350 4x4 Dually 7.3L turbo with very low miles....would 2 cycle oil benefit this particular engine?

I dump a quart of melted bacon fat in each tank when I fill up. Haha kidding, but it is funny the variety of things folks put in their old diesels. I use Walmart two-stroke

Yes, it will prolong the life of the injection system. You can use it in diesels 2007 and older (before all the ridiculous emissions took place). Something I forgot to mention earlier, is to make sure it's low ash 2 cycle oil. The purpose is just for restoring the needed lubrication that today's fuel lack.

Diesel D, if your trying to help your injectors, the best product I’ve used is hot shots secret stiction eliminator. Goes in oil not fuel. If your injectors are sticky from stiction (varnish build up) this will clean them. It is a little pricy but so are injectors.

That won't do anything to the injectors in an IDI though. The motor oil has nothing to do with the injectors in an IDI. It should help on a powerstroke though.

I guess I’ll stir up a little more, I think stiction eliminator could help an IDI if it’s turboed. Would clean journal bearings.

Like mentioned below. The stiction eliminator would be a better product on the oil side. Which is most important for a heui engine.
In the fuel give the edt or extreme a try.

It could clean the engine out, but here and other forums, a sludgie idi is rare.

Diesel D is asking about his 2002 7.3

Yep, I missed that! Just saw the thread in the IDI section!

Didn't say it wouldn't help, just not the injectors on an IDI. I've considered trying it in my 91 just to see if it makes any difference. I'm not sure I don't have a sticky lifter and it couldn't hurt to try.

Years ago everyone was trying auto rx to clean the insides of these. I agree with 79jasper about idis normally being pretty sludge free, they move a lot of oil. If there is varnish buildup anywhere stiction eliminator is the best bet I think.

I use the Hotshot Stiction Eliminator in my '86 every 5th oil change, FRP in oil on other changes and it runs smoother than ever. EDT on fresh tanks & Hotshot Extreme every 6th refuel. Use gasoline related products in my 2004 Expedition. Very good products. Sign up and get discounts & gimmees. I only buy when the discounts I use hit my emails

good advice, gnathv....I don't think my injectors are sticking, as I have VERY low miles, and it runs like new (just turned 13K, original---NOT a misprint...13k)...would like to keep this truck for life....so that's why I'm interested in anything that can keep it running tip-top....(you know, that "ounce of prevention" saying)....:)
