@Clb @IDIoit so why did everyone used to like them and have them on their trucks and now everyone hates them. like what happened that made people change their minds about the pumps?

Quality and reliability is going down hill with most parts, including many e fuel pumps that otherwise used to provide reliable service for these trucks. As time goes on, we learn about new reliability and quality issues and have to continually go thru trial and error periods as we try out some new models of stuff (pumps in this case) in attempt to get the best out of what's out there.

Sad, but true.

I must have one from previous better quality. Never had a problem from day one.

for me, it was using them and having it fail on me.
over 2 decades of using holley pumps without many failures, ill stick to them.

I have posted this in most of the epump threads....
So
What the heck 1 more time.

As to why we now h8 em....

The group buy was done on one members basic input.
The thing was not LONG term tested, however showed promise curing air intrusion, hard starting and the (my .02 here) the unsubstantiated idea the diaphragm in the oe pump failing and filling the crankcase full of fuel without the operator noting it.

Note the fact the idiot light should trigger, and the eng should show signs of starvation IF this happens...

My (group buy pump) long term result was, it never missed a beat first 10-15k, then it started tripping the light on BIG,HEAVY pulls...
Back blew the fuel lines, added pre filters, changed air\fuel filters...NADDA.-cuss
This slowly grew worse, it culminated in a continuous fuel lamp on any moderate grade heading into Ak. From the prk.
It never acted weak, however it pissed me off enuff and for long enuff I pre ordered a holly sent to my next biviouc site in Canada.

After the swap never seen the lamp Again.

I feel the fact some live in the plains states or never tow heavy contributes to the "works for me" guys.
I bet there are a few faucets pulling great, mine sure did NOT!

@Clb @IDIoit so why did everyone used to like them and have them on their trucks and now everyone hates them. like what happened that made people change their minds about the pumps?

Everyone loved them and raved for several reasons. For some it solved air intrusion issues that a mechanical pump will never do. For others, it allowed them to change fuel filters easily. Some were given peace of mind by not worrying about the diaphragm rupturing. And others were running into issues with cheap quality mechanical pumps failing.

The problem is the specs on the facet look like it would be an ideal match for an idi's fuel consumption. The problem is, the gph number was free flow, and not at pressure. So even on stock trucks, the facet will be marginal. Now, run that pump and put some wear on it, increase your fuel requirements, pump cold fuel, and the facet is no longer adequate.

I'm not saying every facet is junk and needs thrown in the trash. But people found out that it wasn't the knight in shining armor that it was originally thought to be. Members have found a whole host of alternatives too, such as different facet pumps, holley pumps, carter pumps, etc.

I'm personally looking at different diaphragm and gear pumps, and seeing if there is a high volume option that could be adapted to our engines. Until then, the stock pump will have to suffice.

Walbro FRB-13 is what I have been running on a few applications for the past year, as my Carter P4070 era came to an un-reliable end.

Zero problems with the Walbro's thus far

Thank you for saying "homemade". Finally someone gets it, lol. Everything is "custom" these days cause homemade sounds like some guy in his garage...doing exactly what it is, making a homemade fuel setup/bumper/camping situation, etc.

There's a lot of them out there, Google "IDI custom fuel setup" or similar and you should get plenty of hits.

@The_Josh_Bear i know there are forums out there with the info. what i mean is has anyone made a double filter set up with good pump (holley, walbro, etc) and has had good long term results with it. pretty much anyone can go to napa get some filters, bolt the filter heads together slap on an e pump and put it on there truck and say its good. we learn things by doing it and we learn thru trial and error, just like the guys that had facet pumps that are now going away from them. i know there are guys with big IPs on their truck that say that their e pump has enough psi to feed it under a load or at WOT. since R&D sells a double filter e pump setup it obviously isnt a "new idea" and with everything that is made if you look it over you can find flaws or ways to improve it.

what im trying to say is we should try to figure out what the best long term e pump is, that will also supply enough fuel for large IPs if needed. and we should try to put that e pump on a set of filter heads and see what happens. in theory the e pump should supply the ip with enough psi across the full rpm range, and since the fuel would be filtered better it should improve the preformance and lifespan of the ip and injectors
