I got tired of searching for a tach n time and whatnot, so I picked up this.
Sealey TL95 Timing Light Diesel Converter Boxon Amazon. You need an adjustable advance timing light, but you need one anyway if you work on any kind of vehicles. It works.

Good find, I didn't know anyone was still making something we could use! I got a ferret before they stopped making them and for a few years it's used or nothing for guys looking.

I'd like to find one of the original ford/rotunda timing tools like the dealership would have had back when they worked on these engines. My old boss had one that he bought when the dealer he worked for closed and I used it on my 91idi and my 94 idit and it was amazing how different they ran with the timing where it was supposed to be.

The Tech Time units on ebay are a good deal if your only other option is to pay a shop. I bought one a few months ago and it works great. They are still made by the company DTI, makers of the TinyTach, so parts and support are available if there's a problem. Also, the company's founder seems to be the man who invented and patented the clip on transducer we use.

The only thing that I am pretty sure you can get new is the Draf Industries one. It's pretty close to the ZTSE-4142 that the Navistar manual recommends.
Here are the manual pages (Now rotated for easy reading):

And here are a couple of shots of the timing unit:

I got the timing device new on ebay a while back, haven't made a chance to use it yet. They sell this for use with the military's HMMVs.
I also purchased one of these off E-bay.have engine out doing head gaskets and ARP studs.price was right so i figured i would give it a try.
